Clinton was a sitting President. That makes it a bad comparison as well.
Obama is ahead. He isn't ahead by much, but he is ahead.
That means something needs to happen to shake up the race. I am doubtful McCain will go on the attack (although he desperately needs to). I am hopeful the GOP-leaning 527s will be able to get the job done for him.
Most Americans do not agree with Obama's policies, but they need to be informed on what those policies are. Time for our side to get to work.

Why dont you bring up Dole/Clinton, where Clinton was in the lead, and never gave it up? Because Obama isn't an incumbent?

I'm betting the attacks will be pretty devastating when they come. There is soooo much material out there to work with.Against Kerry, they had someone to enthusiastically support. They now have McCain and they now feel betrayed by their support of President Bush. I don't know that there will be as much enthusiasm this time.

GOP-leaning 527s carry his water for himAre you kidding? Are you aware that lib 527s out-spent GOP 527s 20-1 last year? 20-1!!!
Even if one of them wants to join the effort, McCain will blast them and apologize for them... so what's the point?

Ever heard of the Bradley/Wilder effect?
Just ignore the polls and show up on November 4th to vote.

Here's the scenario... 527s take out an ad (IF the media even displays it)... H will claim it's rac---... McCain will disavow it, and call it a rac--- organization... The MSM will STILL point McCain... The 527 group just spent millions of dollars on something that caused a backlash
After that, who else would even think about starting another 527?

RE: Obama overexposure
You hit the nail on the head. Human nature I think results in swing voters who get sick of personalities and sour on them. Because much of the Obama-mania is about his personality and rhetoric, this has a real chance of happening this year.
Save these posts.

Chris Matthews has Obama up by hundreds and hundreds of points. I'm getting a tingle up my leg just thinking about it.

The media is going to go after McCain's jugular after the first debate and espouse praise on their leftist messiah. And that would be different how?

Enough already with the Dukakis BS... That was a long time ago... 20 years. Uhh...Bush vs. Kerry was just 4 years ago. Kerry had a TWENTY POINT LEAD on Bush after he clinched the democratic nomination. Carter also had a big lead on Reagan in 1980. History shows it's quite normal for the demo candidate to enjoy all the media adoration and rack up a big lead early. Then the GOP get their face time with conventions and debates when they and their opponent aren't filtered by the media. The usual response is enough people coming to their senses and voting GOP.

Its still mighty early. Back in 1988, Dukakis had an 18 point lead on GHWB right after the Democratic convention in mid summer.
True, but McCain will be celebrating with LaRaza in July, and he'll no doubt find numerous other ways of angering what should be his base voters.
Has any presidential candidate lost all 50 states?

It's only natural to get sick of pop culture celebs...and it's been all Obama all the time. And it's only going to get worse. Picture John and Jane Doe sitting down to watch the Olympic games to cheer for the USA...and boom! there's Barry bragging about how he's a real American. It's bad enough now on Lifetime (my diversion from politics) to see Barry & McCain every three seconds in their “Army Wives” spots.

Perhaps they drank anti freeze in the cold winter months.
I'm the Norwegian lefse/lutefisk/kringla eating boy that escaped. Perhaps they got a hold of some bad lutefisk (how would you tell?) Laars/Ole/Lena and Sven are my kin ... they weren't to bright but they had commonsense.
Perhaps the Darwin syndrome happened and they mutated .... good lord only knows .... but the two states are what they are. My body and dollars avoid both of them these days.

The media is just going after McCain’s kneecaps now. They attack him frequently, but it hasn’t been an all out impassioned war on all fronts. They will throw everything imaginable and then some come late summer.
