The Court has released the opinion in District of Columbia v. Heller (07-290), on whether the Districts firearms regulations which bar the possession of handguns and require shotguns and rifles to be kept disassembled or under trigger lock violate the Second Amendment. The ruling below, which struck down the provisions in question, is affirmed.
Justice Scalia wrote the opinion. Justice Breyer dissented, joined by Justices Stevens, Souter and Ginsburg. We will provide a link to the decision as soon as it is available.

Affirmed 5-4. Now let’s see the details.

The devils in the details. Hope theyve got an Evelyn Wood grad on standby to go through the fine print. The shorter it is, the better. I'm afraid that if it's a tome, it's going to be an exercise in having the Second Amendment nuanced out of existence. IMHO.

Protects INDIVIDUAL Right to bear arms. Yes! Disregard 6-3; Souter and Stevens blended together. *LOL*
Will be pretty clear cut if only one majority opinion.

One majority opinion, too. That’s very important. Good day today.
To: mondonico
Anyone want to venture a guess on how this might have turned out with Sandra Day O’Connell still on the bench?
To: bvw
Only two opinions - a majority opinion and a dissent. No other separate opinions to cloud the issue.

Justice Scalia wrote the opinion. Justice Breyer dissented, joined by Justices Stevens, Souter and Ginsburg. This is why I'm voting for McCain. Imagine the type of person Barry would nominate to join the Leftist Four on the Court!

This was a 5-4 decision.
THIS IS WHY WE MUST ELECT JOHN MCCAIN, WARTS AND ALL, THIS NOVEMBER.
Can we really bear having a radical Chicago machine politician appoint the next Supreme Court justice?
