CBS’s Couric: Zimbabwe Dictator Departed From Marxist ‘Hope and Promise’
newsbusters.org ^ | June 25, 2008 | Kyle Drennen

On Tuesday’s CBS "Evening News" anchor Katie Couric reported on Zimbabwe’s opposition leader dropping out of an election against the nation’s socialist dictator, Robert Mugabe, and lamented how: "The fear and danger that now pervades the streets of Zimbabwe under President Robert Mugabe is a tragic departure from the hope and promise that began with his landslide victory nearly 30 years ago." File footage of an unidentified reporter covering Mugabe’s 1980 election followed: "A self-described Marxist has won the right to form the first government of the new state of Zimbabwe."

Couric continued to describe Mugabe’s promising rise to power:

When Robert Mugabe was first elected in 1980, he was a hero. He was seen as one of Africa's most promising black leaders...The son of a carpenter, the revolutionary and former school teacher said he had, quote, "inherited the jewel of Africa." A country rich in resources, Zimbabwe claimed independence from Britain in 1965 when it was known as Rhodesia. During the '80s, Zimbabwe's government received international support...at a time its neighbor, South Africa, practiced apartheid. The country's economic condition and public health improved. But in the '90s, Mugabe became more authoritarian. This one-time revolutionary squashed all opposition and faced charges of cronyism and corruption.

Despite seeming to be surprised that Mugabe’s Marxist policies didn’t work out, Couric did highlight the regime’s brutality: "The country has been in economic free fall since 2000. Six years ago Mugabe ordered all white commercial farmers to abandon their farms with no compensation. Once Africa's bread basket, the country now relies on outside food programs, and half the population is undernourished..."

"The fear and danger that now pervades the streets of Zimbabwe under President Robert Mugabe is a tragic departure from the hope and promise that began with his landslide victory nearly 30 years ago." This statement is way too Freudian... Either that or Katie has visions.

Is that anything like "Hope and Change?"

I’m certain all the slain white farmers who fed that region - who’s farms were confiscated by Mugabe’s thugs and slaughtered like animals would be right proud of Mugabe.

Problem is after the farmers were slaughtered the natives had no idea how to farm and the land went fallow.

Couric apparently is about as deep as a paper plate.

CBS’s Couric: Zimbabwe Dictator Departed From Marxist ‘Hope and Promise’

What a surprise, another leftist totalitarian dictatorship is falling and killing its citizens as it goes down.

The only ones not seeing this coming was Katie and her hard leftist fellow journalists and friends.

socialism, and therefore marxism, requires a dictator to work properly. Mugabe is just fulfilling the destiny of a peoples stupid enough to embrace socialism.

Katie Couric: “Gee whiz, the Marxist Mugabe and his followers aren’t as nice as they used to be. They are getting as mean as George W. Bush and Dick Cheney.”

There’s nothing particuarly unique about Mugabe’s reign in Zimbabwe. Communist governments collapse and claim millions of victims along the way, some more permanently than others. Lenin’s Soviet Union, Ceausescu’s Romania, Castro, North Korea, etc etc—all stories of impoverishment, repression, despair, abject corruption, Hell on earth... We’ll be able to add Chavez’s Venezuela and Obama’s USA in due time. Couric is just a pathetic apparatchik, a paid Marxist stooge.

Is this the same election Hussein O-bam-bam wants us to take over “by force” and change the outcome?

"The country has been in economic free fall since 2000..."

Does this not just scream "Bush's fault."

At least we can see our future.

When I was a child, we had Rhodesian friends that used to visit us here in the US. After they fled to South Africa, I remember a joke he told me when I was about 10 years old. He asked, “Do you know what they used to light their homes with in Zimbabwe before candles?... Electricity!”

For many Marxists Zimbabwe is the model to be desired. They have achieved equality, yes they are all starving but they are more or less equal. They view prosperity as a bourgeois artifact and fixation. Socialists have no use for prosperity, they are fixated on equality.

The only ones not seeing this coming were Katie and her USEFUL IDIOT fellow journalists and friends!

Those who did see it coming were her COMMUNIST fellow journalists and friends. They knew this was the plan from the beginning!

Yes, I am shouting! It is time we called the enemy by its true name: COMMUNISTS and USEFUL IDIOTS.

Bingo!

It is time we use the word the fit: MARXIST!

Also,...It is time that we demand that our talk radio Pumpkin Heads use words that fit as well! Those words are:

Marxist!

Communist!

Stalinist!

Bolsevic!

Communism has **always** been the enemy. There is no such thing as a “liberal”. It is like a train line. Every socialist program is merely one more station train stop. The final destination **is** and always **has been** COMMUNISM!

Gee, a Marxist, once elected, becomes a tyrannical dictator.

Color me surprised.

Preview of an Obama Administration, especially the second term when all-out Marxist exists in the government and Supreme Court dominated by pro-communists.
