On to promote his new movie "Hancock," Will Smith was pushed by "Today" co-host Matt Lauer to express his support for Barack Obama and the actor/rapper, channeled his inner Michelle Obama, as he declared it's the "first time" in five to 10 years it's been good to be an American overseas [audio available here]:
WILL SMITH: You know I just, I just came back from Moscow, Berlin, London and Paris and it's the first, I've been there quite a few times in the past five to 10 years. And it just hasn't been a good thing to be American. And this is the first time, since Barack has gotten the nomination, that it, it was a good thing.
The following is an excerpt from the interview as it occurred on the June 22, "Today" show:
MATT LAUER: Let me get you on the record on politics here, okay? It's been-
WILL SMITH: No.
LAUER: Yeah, please.
(laughter)
LAUER: It's been, you basically come out and said, "Look what I have to do to help Barack Obama win, I'll do." You know, "Call on me."
SMITH: Absolutely.
LAUER: Has he called on you and are, are you supporting Barack Obama 'cause you would've supported anybody the Democrats put forward or that you just think he's the man?
SMITH: You know I just, I just came back from Moscow, Berlin, London and Paris and it's the first, I've been there quite a few times in the past five to 10 years. And it just hasn't been a good thing to be American. And this is the first time, since Barack has gotten the nomination, that it, it was a good thing. You know the-
LAUER: Do you think people can't get behind America led by John McCain?
SMITH: You know I just, there, there are, there are certain ideas that I believe Barack stands for that are fundamental that the forefathers of this country wrote down on paper that we're all supposed to pay attention to, we're not supposed to ignore it and do what we want to do 'cause we have different ideas. And I believe just at his core the, that those ideas just they, they just come of his pores. And I'm, I'm excited to support him.
LAUER: And so the question everybody gets right now, if he calls you and wants you to be his Vice President you will?
SMITH: I will, and you know, I mean, I, I, I love this country and I'll do what I have to do. You know so, if I, if I have to run, you know, America really has an ear fetish. So I think I definitely have the ears for, Barack and I, we could do it.
I didn’t say I stuck up for him supporting Obama; although he has every right to do so even if I don’t agree with it.
I see what you have said and I feel so very sorry for you kids.
I note what you have said, and I feel so very sorry for your kids.
Another overpaid, nonthinking, Hollywood nitwit...
Hey Will, you are an actor. You memorize lines. You blew this one big time.
I like the guy, but wow, I can’t imagine where folks come up with this stuff. “Beauty IS in the eye of the beholder.” There’s no getting around it.
The Fresh Prince has every right to support the Obamunist. Let’s just hope he gets his fair share of the blame when the Obamessiah destroys this country.
Here’s hoping Will is toiling in the rice fields with the rest of us peasants In the Glorious Peoples Republic of Obamania.
No more Willy movies. He likes America for the first time.
Not to worry. BJ said we'll only be in Kosovo for 6 months.
“First Time In Years,” huh
How many years? Let me guess. Eight, right?
:eyeroll:
So evidently Smith believes that Barry Hussein brings something to political thought which has never been seen or uttered before? The headline is not misleading. This typical hollywood leftist is following the lead of a group of nations which do not compare in any way to the United States. Yet these third world also-rans have made up his mind about his own country. So is Smith fascinated with the Obamesiah because of his great accomplishments...(none); because of his unique points of view...(none); because of his meticulously thought out and carefully presented “cures for what ails us”...(none)??? Question Smith a little more closely and like every other Obama disciple, he wouldn’t be able to provide with a single example of this phony politicians brilliance, acumen or certainly anything which makes him in the least comparable to any of the founders. So please, don’t bring up nonsensical comparisons with Chuck Norris. I don’t recall 95% of whites voting for or supporting Huckabee. When McCain’s white support nears that level, you can try to make a believable point. Until then...it’s all about race.
I detest hypocrites. If he was so unhappy for the past 20+ years he should return the millions of dollars he made off of Americans while living in America.
Not another dime from me.........
“Im going to have to stick up for Will on this one. What was left out of the headline is the key qualifier overseas. I havent been overseas in a few years, but Ive heard enough about the Anti-American bashing that has gone on to understand what he is saying. Later in the interview he makes it very clear that he loves this country.”
I agree. I hate taking sentence fragments out of context and creating a misleading headline. It’s a stupid, dishonest tactic used primarily by leftist thugs and DU morons.
I don’t care what the Putins of this world think of American democracy.
And the Hollywood Reds can stuff it too. They lied about there being no Communists in Hollywood pushing Stalin’s propaganda. They lied about there being no Soviet influence in our government.
And they lie about it to this day. Screw them. They have the blood of tens of millions of victims of Communist domination on their hands.
BULLSHIT! Obama is the OPPOSITE of what our founding fathers wanted. Our founding fathers wanted government to be local and small. Obama wants it to be central and HUGE, doing everything for anyone with ANY gripe at all about anything at all.
Don’t forget when he did such a good job wrapping himself up in the role of draft dodging Muhammad Ali.
What?
Will Smith turns out to be as stupid and gullible as other libs; disappointing, but hardly worth this type of response.
