How do supposedly intelligent college educated people get so stupid when they join a newspaper's editorial board? "Stupid is as stupid does" to quote the great Forrest Gump.

I could only take the first 4 paragraphs or so before the complete idiocy of the editorial board was revealed. America’s educational system at work again.

I’m sure Buffalo has been losing jobs and economic vitality continuously in the 35 years that this country hasn’t had an energy policy (and since the first OPEC threat) and these idiots seem content to just calling for more conservation.

It’s interesting that they don’t seem to have a place for readers to respond. I guess they just don’t want to hear it.

Yep, that editorial repeats the same old bunkum.

Oil companies bad, democrats good, republicans bad, America has hardly any oil at all.

I like how the figure on America’s share of the worlds oil supply keeps shrinking in these stories. Two weeks ago they were saying 3%, last week it was 2%, this week it looks like under 2%.

$5/ gal heating oil is going to be real popular among their readership in Buffalo. I notice they’re careful not to mention that in the editorial, hoping people are stupid enough not to make the connection. Like the rest of the Obama toadies their answer, “Let them eat cake.”

These lines from “Three Days of the Condor” should be repeated as often as possible.

Higgins: It’s simple economics. Today it’s oil, right? In ten or fifteen years, food. Plutonium. Maybe even sooner. Now, what do you think the people are gonna want us to do then?
Joe Turner: Ask them?
Higgins: Not now - then! Ask ‘em when they’re running out. Ask ‘em when there’s no heat in their homes and they’re cold. Ask ‘em when their engines stop. Ask ‘em when people who have never known hunger start going hungry. You wanna know something? They won’t want us to ask ‘em. They’ll just want us to get it for ‘em!

So assume it's 5%. The question still stands: how can a country with a relatively paltry share of oil reserves drill its way to energy independence?

It wasn't panic when we said “drill” 20 years ago.

It wasn't panic when we said “drill” 10 years ago.

Now what we said would happen if we didn't drill has, and the liberals say we are panicking when we say “drill”.

Should CPR be avoided on a dying patient, as it may be construed as a panic response?

I see the SUNY at Oswego grads have risen to the top of the Buffalo News editorial board.

Gee, those Beer Balls make great lamps.

It's stupid and socialist. I notice the editorial's author didn't try to trot out the "It'll take 10 years" canard. But he did try to pull the lease angle, which only serves to showcase the author's breathtaking ignorance with regard to the oil industry.

BTW, Buffet and Berkshire Hathaway still own the Buffalo News? If so, nuff said.

Like I said before, it’s not Obama we have to worry most about, it’s the American people themselves. Obama is only a symptom of a much greater sickness called Socialism, and Obama merely reflects their ideology. And they are now nearly a majority in just a few short years.

This is an Obama campaign ad - nothing more and nothing less. How do I know? The lack of substantive alternatives.

Let's move along....

there probably are 30% who would benefit by even more socialist policies, if there were no unintended consequences, like the collpse of the stock market if oil refineries were socialized. It’s a good base for leftist Democrats to build from.

The green people need to shut up and sit down now. They've done enough damage in the last 40 yrs., we need to solve this problem now. It's our oil and we need it now! All the oil, nuke power, alternative energy, we need to put our American know-how to work because OPEC and the ME in general are our enemies, and that is not going to change. So we must!

“The question still stands: how can a country with a relatively paltry share of oil reserves drill its way to energy independence?”

If we can’t drill our way out of this, then what makes you think we can tax our way out?

To answer your question, they’re talking about ‘proven reservers’. The only way to know what the actual reserves are is to explore and drill.

There are two problems with your question.

First, it implies that America should reduce it’s consumption. Energy and wealth are related. Wealthy societies use energy in proportion to their wealth. Do you think American oil use is ‘unfair’?

Second, the environmentalists fight any new source of energy. Oil is too messy. Nuclear is dangerous. Wind mills kill birds. The list goes on. The environmentalists and their paid for political allies in the democrat party will fight any new source of energy.

The Buffalo News is a daily fishwrap; it has been, is now and always will be a worthless liberal rag enamoured with illusions of its own importance.

I stopped my subscription to this bird cage liner nearly 20 years ago.

I'm surprised they didn't even mention the alternatives to get off fuel that exist in test markets like this:

Japan's H20 Car

France and Australia's Air Car

Free Magnetic Engine

Tesla's Magnetic Car Engine

To the News' editorial writers it would be 'panic' to go to school to improve yourself if you found yourself out of a job from the auto plant.

To them you can't eat your way out of hunger and you can't work your way out of poverty!

LOL - And the endless spew from leftists across the nation not to drill and provide our own domestic enery isn't panic?

If we can’t drill our way out of this, then what makes you think we can tax our way out?

False dilemma. Just because one won't work doesn't mean the other will. There may be no good solution.

First, it implies that America should reduce it’s consumption. Energy and wealth are related. Wealthy societies use energy in proportion to their wealth. Do you think American oil use is ‘unfair’?

It may be necessary. "Fair" or "unfair" has nothing to do with it. If reality says oil is harder to get, and it is more expensive, than that is life.

The environmentalists and their paid for political allies in the democrat party will fight any new source of energy.

Let 'em. But that doesn't mean we should buy into the hype that suggests a silver bullet exists that would fix all our problems.

Obviously, these people have studied Socialism without studying History. They have no clue that it has been repeatedly tried and has failed miserably.

In the case of the ones who did consult history, they believe that it was simply done by the wrong people, at the wrong time, in the wrong place. They have ordained themselves as the exception to the rule who are superior in every way. If they do it, it will work for their sake.

Our Schools and Universities have thrived under Capitalism and have given the credit for their success to their Leftist ideology. After they bring Capitalism down, that will quickly change as it always has since the beginning of Civilization.
