FOX News Poll: Americans 'Energized' for Action (76% want drilling now)
FoxNews ^ | June 21, 2008 | Ernie Paicopolos

After taking the body blows of higher energy prices, Americans seem more willing than ever to fight back with bold initiatives. For example, just over three-quarters (76 percent) support immediately increasing oil drilling in the United States - a position recently espoused by presumptive Republican nominee John McCain. More than seven in 10 Democrats (71 percent) also hold this view.

A slim majority (53 percent) supports drilling in a small area of the Alaska National Wildlife Refuge - up 5 percentage points since March 2006. Support also has risen over that same period for drilling in the Gulf of Mexico - 77 percent today, up from 68 percent.

And nuclear power - another McCain energy plank - seems to be enjoying a resurgence of popularity as well. By a 51 percent to 41 percent margin, Americans favor building more nuclear power plants than the 100 or so that already exist - a 4-point increase in support over the last two-plus years.

I read that ANWR is so small an area of Alaska that if you imagine a horse, ANWR is a flea on the horse.

Or the postage stamp on a football field - a frozen Siberian wasteland that even the caribou and the rarefied (not) polar bears stay away from.

a position recently espoused by presumptive Republican nominee John McCain.

Last month he publicly stated his opposition to drilling in ANWR. He couldn't be more of a phony or disingenuous.

The problem with the blue dog democrats going along with the lib leadership, most do not have any competition this fall. The republican party has disintegrated.

Since the MSM has jumped on this “Green” bandwagon while politicians leave the consumer behind, the GOP guest need to appear on every opposite of the pollsters news channel and tout the poll. The news station will start to undermine the accuracy of the polling and make themselves look foolish while doing so.

ANWR Detailed Map: Proposed dev area: 3.13 sq miles

ANWR.org -- lots of good info about why it makes sense to drill with pictures of happy caribous around the pipelines.

Take the green out of Americans’ wallets, and you take the green out of their politics, too.

I need an email address for Bill Nelson (Idiot-Florida) so I can send him this poll without going through his lame, designed-to-discourage-contact web site.

Actually ANWR is a fairly large region - hundreds of thousands of acres mostly snow and ice - but the “footprint” which would be used for drilling is quite small - about one-quarter the size of Manhatten - and since virtually no one ever visits the ANWR region, the idea of keeping it “pristine” is really a sham.......

Will 76 percent of Americans vote to oust the liberals from Congress who are owned by the enviro whackos and will never allow drilling? Because if they don’t vote out the bought-off lefties, they might as well opppose drilling themselves.

I haven’t heard this discussed: Is this a Red State/Blue State thing?

Already, Blue States (Cali, Wash.) have commited to NOT drilling. If Red State’s drill they would reap the reward and increase their population and increase their influence. The Red States have more growth already, can the Democrats afford yet more Red State growth?
