South Carolina on Friday electrocuted a man for murdering his ex-girlfriend's parents in 1994, the second execution in the state since a Supreme Court ruling lifted a de facto national moratorium, a state official said.
James Earl Reed, 49, was convicted in 1996 of shooting Joseph and Barbara Lafayette multiple times, including execution-style shots in the heads, after they refused to tell him where their daughter was. He had dismissed his attorney during his trial and tried to defend himself in court.
"The execution of James Earl Reed was carried out at 11:27 p.m.," state prison spokesman Josh Gelinas said.
The execution had been scheduled for 6 p.m. EDT but was halted at the last minute and delayed for nearly 5 1/2 hours while lawyers made final appeals.
The U.S. Supreme Court ultimately cleared the way for the execution.

As a man who has had
A close friend senselessly murdered
I firmly believe that,
With the given facts,
this man lived too long

Why would the “de-facto moratorium” have affected S. Carolina if they are using the chair to execute people? That case was all about the chemicals in lethal injections.

Well, if they wanted to execute him, then it’s a good thing he was in an electric chair.

It’s good to see that some states still use the electric chair. Most states, if they have capital punishment at all, opt for that sissy lethal injection.

Doesn't look too happy though...
I suspect before

SC has lethal injection but allows the convict to choose either one.

"South Carolina Executes Man in Electric Chair" Did Rueters think unless they said how he was executed we might believe they threw him into an electric fence to execute him?

The lifers at Maryland State Penitentiary used to refer to the use of the electric chair as "riding the lightenin' express." I worked with many of the lifers who were officers and members of the Jaycee Chapter in the prison. They freely stated that the worst of the worst in the penitentiary richly deserved to ride the lightenin' express.
