WASHINGTON, June 19 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- American Solutions for Winning the Future announced today that one million Americans have signed the "Drill Here, Drill Now, Pay Less" petition urging Congress to immediately start drilling for American oil to lower gas prices.
The petition reads:
"We, therefore, the undersigned citizens of the United States, petition the U.S. Congress to act immediately to lower gasoline prices (and diesel and other fuel prices) by authorizing the exploration of proven energy reserves to reduce our dependence on foreign energy sources from unstable countries."
"The voices of one million Americans are sending a clear message to Congress that we can do more with our huge energy resources here at home," said Newt Gingrich, American Solutions' General Chairman. "With hard-working Americans struggling to pay for soaring gas and diesel prices, it's likely gas prices will be the defining issue in November. Our elected officials have a simple choice: Either take action to drill here and drill now for American oil or the American people will take action this fall."

We will know when online petitions become viable with congress when congress takes more steps to regulate the internet. Regulating public information sites that point out congressional idiocy are not beneficial to congress raising re-election money.
I hope this works. But 1 million of 350 million is not representitive of a major force. When we start seeing 50 million people (equivalent to a winning election voting bloc, they will have to take notice.
I don’t believe it. Still, avoiding mistletoe probably isn’t a bad idea...
Contact your Congress critters to let them know that you are tired of high gas prices.
Since the Congress has an approval rating of 12% I dare say we shouldn’t expect much from these idiots.

Vote Obama in Nov
-your friends on the American Left...
If they still do not get the message, pick another day.
May be even call their blackberry's and remove that tool.....
Tell me the day and if any 'direct numbers' which are know, pass them along.
After all who in Congress would not want to hear from their voters?
>”Email Address Required” to sign petition. Nah, sorry. Not even a fake one.<
Oh come now. What are you afraid of? All petitions require an address.
>We should vote every SOB out of Congress.<
There should certainly be term limits for them, as well as for the office of president. Since ballots are counted by manipulable computers, voting may soon become obsolete.
Well, STAND BY ONE, you may yet be needed.
Probably not with a solid population made up almost exclusively of democraps, gun control can hardly help being the ruling passsion there.
Why waste time on the impossible -- drilling on that end never has worked.-- only repeated good swift kicks on the other end would do a world of good.
Term limits is not going to happen. It has to be done at the voting booth. Vote for the challenger.
You’re partly correct.
Canned petitions generated on the net to comment on a federal rule change are given little or no weight. Written responses by individuals are given greater weight. This was a change made by the Bush administration when the eco-hippies would sign petitions on the Sierra Club websites to save this or that slug or snail darter.
This is another good move by Bush he’s never given credit for.
As for petitions sent to congress, I don’t know. I’d think showing up at town meetings and screaming at your local congress thief would have more affect.
I always urge my fellow small government compatriots to show up at town hall meetings and give ‘em hell.
Thanks for the info. I also believe personal contact by phone, email, and mailed letter are much more effective.
Worked nicely when we shut down the phone lines during the amnesty debate!
