It's sort of like a reverse toll: They pay you to get to work and back.
But the hitch is this: You have to get out of your solo-driver car and commute some other way.
Solo drivers on U.S. 36 are being invited to join a pilot program that would pay them $3 a day, up to a maximum of $180, every day they car pool, take a bus, bike ...

Now, how about sending me a check for not using that freeway at all!

$3 a day, up to $180!!!! A DAY?!!!
And the money comes from where?
That guy named government behind the tree has the cash ?

As I suspected - bribing people with their own money.
Even La Cosa Nostra never had the genius of graft that government has.
Who’s paying (the Bill) for this “pilot program”?
(TAX PAYER-Sadly I fear..) Tell me if I am wrong..?
It is just as plain as the nose on your face.
Either the Tooth Fairy, Santa Claus or maybe even the Easter Bunny.
Can they find someone to carpool with me as I go around the county visiting clients in their homes and businesses?
How about someone to carpool with me when I head to the office at 9pm on Sunday night?
3 bucks isn’t much incentive for anyone earning more than minimum wage.
“3 bucks isnt much incentive for anyone earning more than minimum wage.”
How about $11 a day?
If you drive 20 miles each, and the car gets 20MPG, you save $7 ($3.50 a gallon) plus get $3.
Work 220 days a year, times $11 a day = $2200 a year. That is significant for most working stiffs.
....Bob
Crap, I meant $10/day, not $11. Sorry.
I’m subject to 24 hour roll-call. Thank goodness I wen’t from 500 miles a week to 60 last year.
I am waiting for the road tax. In Italy if you have more than one car, you have to pay road tax on the second vehicle to a tune of 450 euro which is about 700 bucks now a days.
I work at home. Please pay me or I’ll start using the freeway...
A coworker burns about $10 dollar a day driving his truck to work. He isn't ready to start car pooling or buy a more efficient car at these prices. He would rather pay than be inconvenienced...
Yep. Government employees and any military personnel using public transportation can get up to $100.00 per month in vouchers to pay for their commute. My van pool has been doing that for about five years.
Damn. I can make some money. Wonder where that there gubmint gets alla that money to give away?
“Work 220 days a year, times $11 a day = $2200 a year. That is significant for most working stiffs.”
Assuming you don’t chip in for your host’s gas or have to split the driving 1/2 time which then would be $1100/year.
I start a new job soon where I won’t have to drive at all. $4000-5000/year on gas will now become savings.
