Barack's Bounce (Newsweek poll: Obama 51%, McCain 36%)(LINK to full poll internals)
Newsweek ^ | June 20, 2008 | Michael Hirsh

Posted on 06/20/2008 9:12:15 PM PDT by FocusNexus

Obama's current lead also reflects the large party-identification advantage the Democrats now enjoy - 55 percent of all voters call themselves Democrats or say they lean toward the party while just 36 percent call themselves Republicans or lean that way.

Obama's personal ratings have improved, as well: 62 percent of voters overall say they have a favorable opinion of him compared to only 26 percent who have an unfavorable opinion. By comparison, McCain's ratings are 49 percent favorable to 37 percent unfavorable, representing a drop from his previous 54 percent favorable rating.

Obama is trusted more to handle what may prove the biggest issue of the 2008 election - the economy and jobs - by a wide margin (54 percent to 29 percent). He also has a sizable advantage on energy policy, 48 percent to 34 percent, despite McCain's attempts this week to turn voters his way by supporting some new oil drilling and renewing his call for a gas-tax holiday. Voters do not lean as strongly to Obama on the issue of the Iraq War, but he is still preferred over McCain by 46 percent to 40 percent.

This seems like crap to me, and the efforts to get the messiah in and to overthrow the Republican control on the whitehouse is obvious to me. So they make it a 15 point lead to create momentum. Why not 20 points. Why not a 30 point lead. Ridiculous.

It's June. When it is September, with early frosts, crop failures, high food prices, high gas prices, sky-high home heating costs, business failures with job losses and horrible stock market performance, enough of those Obamamaniacs will decide they can live with McCain or they will not be able to vote because they will not be able to get to the polling place. By October, all of the above is really going to bite on those 18-39s who have no memory of the 70s and have been taught that communism is desirable.

If they do not, then we will have an unbearable 4 years in which the American Dream becomes the American Nightmare. Every one of those Change voters is going to be shocked out of their inculcated little minds as the UN and all of the world DEMANDS the USA drill its own oil so there will be more for them. That demand for us to drill is already happening.

Obama will be left stuttering as he admits that we have to drill so that the rest of the world approves of us. If we don't throw the Marxists out of Congress in November, they will be gone by 2010. They know this already and we see the donks elected in 2006 begin the backtracking on drilling. From what I can glean between the lines from the manipulated news, the negotiations over off-shore and ANWR are already happening and all that remains is to determine just how much political payoff and coverage the donkeys will get in exchange for switching their votes to permit offshore drilling.

It has nothing to do with anyone *reasoning* with the brainwashed. Reality is going to teach them the usual hard lesson. Just remember: every time you hear one of them bitch, commiserate with them and blame the Ds.

I don’t question but that the majority of those who would regularly vote will settle on McCain over Obama come November. What scares me is his experience with and dedication to getting out the vote among the foolish young and other of his natural constituencies.

The purpose of media polls is not to read public opinion but to influence it.

Don't fall for it!

Yeah, but most of us were foolish and young, once.

Back in the day, when I was unreformed,I woke up to the news that Reagan had won the election. I was shocked! I actually called it the *counterrevolution*, which was, of course, exactly what it was. Then, I had to watch for the next couple of years as Congress continued to screw up on a daily basis. It wasn’t until I began to understand how my own economic condition was improving and how good it felt to be optimistic again that I really began to be irritated with the left.

Some of them will grow up and change.

Oh, BTW, I didn’t vote in that election. I have voted religiously since, however. I did make the mistake of voting for Perot. That won’t happen again, either.

"Ras has them only 4 percentage points apart."

Gallup (yesterday) shows them 2% points apart.

This isn’t about the GOP. It’s about what’s best for America.

The war in Iraq isn’t going to wait until the GOP gets its act together. A Democrat Congress isn’t going to wait until 2012 to raise taxes.

Conservatives who vote against McCain are hoping the country goes to hell in the next four years. That way, conservatives will become enraged and unify. That, my friends, betrays the movement more than John McCain ever could.

I find it concurrently amazing and humorous that "Conservatives" would engage in the the destructive, 12th imamism mentality. 4 years under a President Obama would turn this nation into one the Founders would not recognize.

The ability to organize would be destroyed. Say hello to the Fairness Doctrine. Real name requirements for Internet postings. Gutted military, oppressive taxation, etc., etc., etc.

If you believe an Obama presidency would allow some Conservative messiah you are as delusional as those who believe Obama is the second coming.

I don't trust McCain. I don't share the same goals as McCain. I consider his changes to be nothing more than political expedience. But I am an American first, a Conservative second and a Republican third. I consider McCain to be a firewall, a fuse, time for grassroots Conservatives to reorganize.

Obama must be stopped, regardless of cost.

What in the world makes one thing that Oprah’s Obama would be confined to a four-year term with the national media being his cheerleader for four consecutive years. The American people will think he is their new secular “Messiah”.

I think personal experience, especially if it is painful, will trump the media. Most people react to propaganda by tuning out. Ex: the more people hear about the dangers of AGW, the less they care.

People liked Jimmuh. Not only did he only serve one term, Congress changed at the next midterm, even though, back then, they were at a higher level of favorability than today’s 12%.And people mostly do not like Obama unless, like this poll, the sample is manipulated. 18-39 year olds have no memory of Carter’s term. They have no real knowledge of what eastern Europe and the USSR endured. Cognitive dissonance will set in and they will become apathetic enough to not vote or angry enough to change their minds.

Cold, hungry, dark, broke and stuck will not, IMO, convince Americans to knuckle under and become good little serfs. There won’t be enough *rich people* and corporations left to pay for everyone, even at a Soviet level of existence. Threatening people’s food and heat in exchange for party loyalty/green jobs won’t work, either. I remember VISTA and CETA and even those benefitting finally admitted how corrupt it was and how they could do better elsewhere, especially those with educations.

This stuff works with those under 30 and people age. Finally, the older, disillusioned ones inform the kiddies. Obama will get votes, of course. But there comes a time when a reasonable old grampa begins to look a lot more secure.

It is going to be ugly if he gets in and if Congress survives the first two years, but I really have faith in the power of people to recognize that things suck, even if it takes two to four years.

YMMV

Irrelevant! Please go away and stop wasting bandwidth unless you have a way to get us a different nominee.

Irrelevant, cynwoody? SoConPubbie posts a list of sourced reasons why s/he will not support the “presumptive” and challenges readers to actually research his record and all s/he received were irrelevant comments, rather than addressing even one of the 33+ reasons for the stand s/he has taken.

When I first found and later joined FR nearly 4 years ago, it was standard operating procedure to hard source any and all claims one would make. If others disagreed with your position they would debate the issue using reason, logic and counter sourced information to make their point without resulting to personal, nasty, irrelevant comments. Posting FACTS with sources to support those FACTS was not called trashing or smearing. The person posting said FACTS was not referred to as a whiner, a cry-baby, a fourth-grader and the like.

Unless Jim has turned the reigns of FR over to you, or you are the sole contributor for the bandwidth bill, you have no authority to tell anyone to stop wasting bandwidth. Some of us appreciate a Freeper that continues to educate rather than denigrate. Many are leaving FR thanks to posts like yours and others I have included in this post.
Many of us take our responsibility to vote very seriously by taking the words of Noah Webster to heart:
When a citizen gives his vote to a man of known immorality,
he abuses his civic responsibility, he sacrifices not only his interest,
but that of his neighbor; he betrays the interest of his country.”

Conservatives who will not vote for the “presumptive” are not voting for HIM simply because he sux less, is the lesser of two evils or is not bHo!
They are not voting against their country or hoping it goes to hell. They are not voting for B Hussein O. They are not looking for “Mr. Perfect” - but simply someone that resembles a conservative. The reinvented, revisionist version of FDT was not the answer, but the point man to ensure the “presumptive” one obtained the nomination.

To RW99 who said: If it was your party, your candidate would be running. - and - FocusNexus who said: …now only little over 25% of the voters are Republicans.
You both made good points. I believe that little over 25% now identify themselves as republicans and that is exactly the percentage the “presumptive” had reached when he was declared the nominee. It is also true that it is not our party, meaning conservatives, any longer. The “presumptive” has been working for years to take over the party and with the help and funding of Soros he has been successful. The facts are presented HERE, for all to see!

As for the challenge: unless you have a way to get us a different nominee…

JUST SAY HELL NO!!!

1. Go to the Republican Tea Party website and sign the pledge.
2. Click here to print out the pledge. Sign it and return it to the GOP in their pre-paid envelopes asking for money after writing “No to McCain!” across the contribution section.
3. Send your signed pledge to the RNC and your state, district and local GOP organizations.
4. Quit pimping a flawed candidate and start working on replacing him at the convention.
5. Check out the links posted at #21 and learn why so many are against him and start demanding a change!

You’re right McCain sucks. He is a weak candidate and his grandstanding for the admiration of the liberal media is a disgrace. But Barack Hussein Obama Carter is worse and very dangerous.

I’m 50 and I lived that era. Maybe there were that many more Dems than GOP then.

But the difference wa that the Dems were not as a whole as far left culturally as now ...lol....especially the Dixiecrats and much of the GOP was the Rockefeller and not the Goldwater variety and henc fairly politcally correct for the time.

I actually think we are now a more leftist electorate than ever before by a wide margin.

The youth especially educate white kids are more leftist, the media is a lost cause, and Hollywood is too.

It’s truly remarkable to have witnssed all of this.

No more silent majority or moral majority, just a bunch of whining lefties complaining about phantom bogeymen.

Yes. I think things can get so bad that we have a real, physical revolution cheered on by a huge majority of Americans.

I voted for W 2x and worked for him in 2004. He has disappointed on a few things, like immigration, but the economy has been fine, we haven’t been attacked and he tried to privatize SS for younger workers and tried to open up drilling and was blocked by donks and rinos.

If you think things can’t get worse, just watch if BHO gets in to the WH.
