Barack's Bounce (Newsweek poll: Obama 51%, McCain 36%)(LINK to full poll internals)
Newsweek ^ | June 20, 2008 | Michael Hirsh

Posted on 06/20/2008 9:12:15 PM PDT by FocusNexus

Obama's current lead also reflects the large party-identification advantage the Democrats now enjoy - 55 percent of all voters call themselves Democrats or say they lean toward the party while just 36 percent call themselves Republicans or lean that way.

Obama's personal ratings have improved, as well: 62 percent of voters overall say they have a favorable opinion of him compared to only 26 percent who have an unfavorable opinion. By comparison, McCain's ratings are 49 percent favorable to 37 percent unfavorable, representing a drop from his previous 54 percent favorable rating.

Obama is trusted more to handle what may prove the biggest issue of the 2008 election - the economy and jobs - by a wide margin (54 percent to 29 percent). He also has a sizable advantage on energy policy, 48 percent to 34 percent, despite McCain's attempts this week to turn voters his way by supporting some new oil drilling and renewing his call for a gas-tax holiday. Voters do not lean as strongly to Obama on the issue of the Iraq War, but he is still preferred over McCain by 46 percent to 40 percent.

Irrelevant! Please go away and stop wasting bandwidth unless you have a way to get us a different nominee.

If it's McCain / Obama this November, anybody who doesn't vote for McCain is voting for Comrade Obama.

“poll manipulation alert”

Yawn. Kerry’s “bounce” after clinching the nomination in the phony MSM polls was not as Newsweak says, 6%, but 17%. All of these polls are as phony as can be.

The issue in this election is not going to be Bush, Iraq or even the economy, much less John McCain. Rather, the issue is going to be Obama. He has too much baggage to make it, including his radical associations (Wright, Ayers, Pfleger, etc), his wife’s negative appeal, his ridiculous inexperience, which yells out “affirmative action” to the white working class voters in the swing states of Ohio, Pennsylvania and Michigan; his elitism (which repels the same white voters); and finally his far left positions: against drilling and ergo for higher gas prices; his opposition to medical care for babies who survive abortion (which passed the U.S. Senate unanimously in the Born Alive Infant Protection Act in 2002); his efforts in the Illinois legislature to make it a felony if a gun is stolen from your house in a burglary, for example, and used to commit a crime, unless you can prove you took “reasonable steps” to secure it. This doesn’t even include his massive tax hike, his government takeover of the medical industry, his willingness to negotiate with, and kowtow to, every tin horn dictator, terrorist and enemy of the United States on the planet.

In a word, Obama is toast, and all the phony Newsweak polls ever conducted are not going to change the inevitable result. I am actually amused by them. They give the liberals false hope, which makes it much more fun to watch MSNBC on election night as Olbermann’s head is exploding. LOL

It seems they samples based on the age groups % of the population rather then in what % of the actual votes cast they represent.

Listen, you spent a lot of time and effort on your trashing of McCain. Good for you.

Give it a rest because the messiah hasn't a 3 in 10 chance of winning in November. When the general election gets cranking and the reality of the (non) positions of the Magic Negro become known via the efforts of the Swift Boat Vets (2008 version) and the like.

It is understood you will not vote for McCain. Personally I don't think you would vote for ANY Republican because I don't think you are one.

Newsweek is just another arm of the marxist MSM propaganda octopus. Their "polls" will be as slanted and dishonest as any other "report" that comes from any MSM source. Worthless.

The MSM isn't even pretending to feign objectivity in this election. They've been biased for as long as I can remember, but this election cycle, it's 10 times more obvious than it ever was. You'd have to be deaf and blind not to see it, or just in total denial. These polls are about as worthwhile as Arizona Cardinal fans predicting a trip to the Super Bowl during spring mini-camps. High hopes, and nothing more (no offence intended to Arizona Cardinal fans). Newsweek is reporting what they want to report, and nothing more. Business as usual.

McCain is not a fighter. He used to be when younger. No excitement. He’s awful on television. Too quiet and pompous at the same time

Obama is slamming him and insulting him every day.
Mitt Romney would have been much better....
And would have attracted bigger crowds

McCain is attracting coffee klatch size crowds. Zero excitement. Even that mo-ron Huckabee could do better

Based on about 5 other polls taken over the same period of time, the newsweal Poll is clearly an outlier. It shows Husseins lead to be close to 4 times that of the other polls.

RCP Average 06/12 - 06/19 -- 47.5 42.0 Obama +5.5

USA Today/Gallup 06/15 - 06/19 1310 LV 50 44 Obama +6.0

Newsweek 06/18 - 06/19 896 RV 51 36 Obama +15.0

FOX News 06/17 - 06/18 900 RV 45 41 Obama +4.0

Rasmussen Tracking 06/17 - 06/19 3000 LV 48 44 Obama +4.0

Gallup Tracking 06/16 - 06/19 2648 RV 46 44 Obama +2.0

Reuters/Zogby 06/12 - 06/14 1113 LV 47 42 Obama +5.0

ABC News/Wash Post 06/12 - 06/15 -- 49 45 Obama +4.0

Mitt Romney would have been much better....

And would be trailing by double gigits in ALL the polls. This poll is bogus, an outlier.

Let’s see. Obama is up in all other polls during this time frame b y 2 - 6 points, how in the world can anyone give this BS poll any credibility. In fact, yesterday’s Gallup and Rasmussen daily poll’s gave Obama leads of 2 and 4 points respectively. Here’s the list:

Gallup +2 Obama
Rasmussen +4 Obama
Fox +4 Obama
Cook +4 Obama
ABC/Washington Post +4 Obama
USA Today +6 Obama
Zogby +5 Obama

This poll is similar to past polls Newsweek was famous for that showed Gore then Kerry with ridiculous leads. It’s a shameless attempt to skew the results to favor Obama. Look at the Gallup and Rasmussen polls if you want a good idea of where the race is.

I think you have it backwards. Obama is such a weak candidate that McCain might just win.

***Obama is such a weak candidate that McCain might just win***

Like Rush said, the election’s about Obama, not McCain.

That’s just the way it is.

Either this nation will accept Obama - knowing or not knowing what he’s truly about - or it will reject him.

The default position against Obama is McCain.

I’m not trying to tell anyone to vote or who to vote for. I haven’t, and I won’t.

I’m just stating a fact that goes along with what YOU wrote.

Kindly stop using Pew as any kind of authoritative source for these stupid polls. Pew is the propaganda organ for the leftist rats. At least point out Pew’s bias.

Reports in The Post last week concerning the political activities of the supposedly above-the-fray Pew Charitable Trusts were, in a word, shocking.

A former program officer for Pew, Sean Treglia, was caught on videotape bragging about how the foundation worked behind the scenes to create the false impression that there was a “mass movement” afoot clamoring for campaign-finance reform.

Then don’t complain about Obama’s nominees to the supreme court because you were active in making sure he got the opportunity to pick them.
