WASHINGTON, June 18 (UPI) -- A new television ad blasting likely Republican presidential nominee John McCain is only the beginning of liberal "independent group" ads, union officials say.
The spot, produced independently of Illinois Democratic Sen. Barack Obama's presidential campaign, financed by the liberal activist group MoveOn.org and the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, features a young mother with a baby criticizing McCain's determination to keep troops in Iraq. It began airing Tuesday in Ohio, Wisconsin and Michigan, USA Today reported.
Pro-Democrat labor union leaders told the newspaper they have assembled millions of dollars for so-called independent group advertising. The AFL-CIO said it has raised $53.4 million for the presidential and congressional elections and will enlist more than 250,000 volunteers to get out the vote. Meanwhile, the Service Employees International Union plans to spend $80 million on presidential and congressional elections, Secretary-Treasurer Anna Burger said.
The newspaper reported its analysis indicates outside "independent" groups have spent more than $25 million since Jan. 1, 2007, with more than 70 percent going to support Democratic candidates.
WASHINGTON, June 4 (UPI) -- Republican fundraisers say they're being swamped by left-wing and liberal political action committees who are raking in tens of millions of dollars.
PACs supporting conservative candidates will need to ratchet up their efforts to keep pace with their liberal counterparts, David Bossie, president of the right-leaning Citizens United fundraising organization, told The Hill newspaper.
"Conservatives are completely outmanned, outnumbered and out-financed," Bossie told the Washington newspaper. "We have to work harder," he said, adding that such pro-Democratic PACs such as MoveOn.org and the Center for American Progress have been highly successful at raising funds so far.
The Hill reported that Democratic Party allies have racked up impressive donations. For instance, the Service Employees International Union will spend $85 million this election cycle, a record for the union, while the AFL-CIO has budgeted $53.4 million for political activity, a $5 million increase over 2004.
Meanwhile, MoveOn.org says it will spend about $35 million in "hard money" contributions, the Hill reported.
Under CFR, are unions permitted to keep putting up ads right up to the election?
I don’t really see anything new here. The same old extortionist-union crap. Always funding the criminal dims to support their criminality.
Same ole stuff.
Yep.
Don’t forget local and state offices.
“under cfr, are unions permitted to keep putting up ads right up to the election?”
unions are aligned with the communists in the u.s. congress and they are exempt from any rules. (the rules only apply to those opposed to communist aims.)
IMHO
I would encourage everyone here to subscribe to the MoveOn site so get free e-mails about what they are up to. And don’t forget to ask for the free Obama stuff — could be collectables someday.
“pro-democrat independent groups gearing up”
if a group becomes pro-democrat is it still independent?
(what a bunch of duplicitous, deceitful macaroons)
Is this the one?
The AFL-CIO said it has VIRTUALLY STOLEN FROM UNION MEMBERS WHETHER THEY WANTED TO CONTRIBUTE OR NOT $53.4 million for the MARXIST DEMOCRATIC 2008 Obamassiah presidential and congressional elections...
...fixed it.....
Unfortunately for us, it means what it means.
That Independents will decide this election again and that they are supporting the Democrats.
Sad but true.....
Is anyone surprised by this? I’m not.
Will John McCain encourage his supporters to fight back in kind? Or will he “play nice” — just roll over and expose his fuzzy tummy so the dems/unions/trial-lawyers/IWW can slit it open easier? We shall see.
“is only the beginning of liberal “independent group” ads, union officials say.”
Bwahahahaha! Union officials are “independent”. To think that somebody would actually publish this crap.
I think the word “independent” is part of the new CFR law. Some groups are part of a candidate’s campaign and some are not officially a part; that is, “independent.”
And then there are those numbered groups and I have no idea where they fall into this mix.
McCain helped dig himself into this CFR hole. I imagine he’ll have to figure a way out of it.
Isn’t CFR swell? McCain is now paying for his prior grandstanding.
This is definitely a self-inflicted wound. I wonder if he suspected he’d be the first politician to really have to pay for his own sin of violating the first amendment?
It was always such a stupid law.
