We're not going to pay AP's extortion fees and we're not going to allow them to control free speech!
Recent AP vs fair use threads ^

This is our Boston tea Party.
The Associated Press wants to levy a $12.50 and up license fee (aka extortion fee) on any blogger who quotes more than 4 words from one of their propaganda pieces. This is an outrageous attempt to control the blogosphere and free speech itself. To hell with their license fee and to hell with the AP. Any AP article that gets posted to FR will be jettisoned into the harbor posthaste.
Please do not post any AP material to FR excerpted or not.

This is going to be difficult... so many news sites use AP stories. But I’ll dump the tea overboard with you, Jim.

Not to be the naysayer here, but isnt a major mission of this website to expose and counter the baises of the major news outlets, so as to prevent their spin from becoming the de facto truth?
How do they intend to enforce this unconstitutional policy? Have we no other recourse, such as not paying them? This policy of simply banning all AP articles sounds less like rebellion and more like capitulation to me.
No more speaking truth to pharoah. Pharoah proclaims, we stand mute.

Majority of articles posted on FR are sourced AP. We can’t share AP articles on FR anymore? That would be the kiss of death for FR since we love to discuss Darwin Awards and guilty or not guilty comments.

4 words? “...and, if, but, the....”
Does that count?
To: Jim Robinson
4 words???????
That is OUTRAGEOUS.
The commonly accepted amount is WAY above that.
To: Jim Robinson
Please note that I am using words contained in recent AP stories.
The words are;
extortion, inflated, ego, suicide and disaster
Sue me.

Almost all papers run AP content, at least most I’ve seen - even on TV News websites and such... Sometimes there is no byline, and sometimes the papers reporters change some of the info and the byline then says; So-and-so with the AP. Other times you can only tell it’s AP content by the fine print at the end of the articles...
This is the most idiotic thing for them to do... They are going to end up marginalizing themselves even more.

They obviously want to make it harder to mock Barack Obama before this election.
There could be no other reason for this.

What upsets/worries me is that AP is the main news source for most of the “newspapers”.
Does this mean that FR could get nailed if we post an excerpt from an article found in an online local newspaper who used AP as it’s source/feed?
This, plus Time-Warner’s decision to test charging for bandwidth use, sounds a lot like we are fast approaching “Fahrenheit 451”. (With all apologies to Vonnegut!)
Am I just a paranoid old grannie?
