I don't see $250 a barrel. There will be a world wide riot first.

If gas gets a whole lot higher, the Europeans are going to want Uncle Sam to invade someplace like Iraq and take all their oil.

Break up the OPEC cartel, by force if necessary. These petty dictators have their foot on the neck of the Western economies. Its time to correct that situation.

This is really out of control. These speculators who are so desperately trying to get Obama elected are threatening to wreck the entire world economy. They need to be shut down, and I mean pronto.

Kick their *** and take the gas. Every man for himself. Or in this case, every country for itself. (Sorry, Europe. You lose to America again.))

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fuel_tax#Europe
Germany: Fuel taxes in Germany are 0.6545 per litre for conventional unleaded petrol, plus Value Added Tax (19%) on the fuel itself and the Fuel Tax. That adds up to 1.37 per litre (approximately USD$7.615 per gallon) for unleaded petrol (Sep 2007).
England: Combined tax rate of 117% of the cost of fuel.
Netherlands: The 2007 fuel tax was 0.684 per litre or $ 3.5 per gallon. On top of that is 19% VAT over the entire fuel price.
Norway: Combined 63% of the fuel price in 2007. In 2008 the socialist/social democratic government of Norway further increased the tax for petrol and diesel.
The government refers to the tax as “environmental tax” on fuels.

With gas at $4.00 a gallon, it costs me $2.00 to go get my 'to go' $6.00 Chinese lunch.

I think the obvious solution is for Europe to focus even more on meeting the Kyoto standards.

Every one of us should make sure that our children and granschildren read this article. Lefties like Jeremy Rifkin want us to become more like Europe. We need to make sure that our young people know what Europe is really like before we take the advice of people like Rifkin (author of the book, The European Dream: How Europe's Vision of the Future is Quietly Eclipsing the American Dream).

Riddle me this Batman, if the dollar is so week and the Euro is so strong how can their fuel cost increases be paralleling ours in the US?
Inquiring minds want to know.

What a silly thread!
We have been told by mental deficients, right here on FR for decades that the Europeans love high fuel prices and we should feel "lucky" that we are getting almost "free gas" by comparison.
Why do the Europeans love high fuel prices? Just because. Or perhaps because it helps to fund the Socialist paradises there...

Let them ride bicycles, that’s what China did when it had its socialist system. If they believe themselves to be true socialists then why aren’t they following the models presented by their Marxist saints - walk, ride a bike or drive a Yugo (unless you’re part of the political class).
