It was all just an "error" that's since been "fine-tuned." So says Barnes & Noble [B&N] now about the way its search engine was prominently returning Barack Obama's "Audacity of Hope" in response to search requests for "God: A Biography." We wrote about the matter here last Thursday.
Today, reader Dan H. wrote to tell us about an interesting exchange of emails he had with B&N regarding the situation. According to Dan, after reading our NewsBusters article, he emailed B&N to express his displeasure, and received what to all appearances was a form letter focusing on freedom of expression, rather than the substance of the complaint.
Dan wrote back to B&N:

Barnes & Noble backs away from search engine “error.” Ping to Today show list.
Those wild eyed people represent the millions of Americans raised in the government day-care and indoctrination centers we call public schools who did not have, or would not listen to, parents and others who tried to counterweight the garbage they heard at school...who have been raised on 60 second sound bite time spans and know no better.
You have other tens of millions on the dole who will vote for him regardless of position because he promises to keep pilfering the public largess for them.
Still othes of millions will vote for him simply because he is black and they refuse to look into his background and associations.
Other millions will vote for him because they know exactly who he is and what he represents and agree with his anti-American positions.
The first three are all what is termed, useful idiots, a term coined by Lennin for the dupes he got to support him.
Against this it is left to us to educate, arouse, and amass the tens of millions of Americans who understand and hold fast to the foundational principles our constitutional republic rests upon...many of them the bitter, rural Americans clinging to their guns and religion that Obama so arrogantly spoke of.
Note this comparison:
Barack Hussein Obama is the apex of the hate-America, domestic enemy in this country. His election as president would be the greatest coup any enemy has ever scored against this country and could easily lead to the worst, horrific disaster in our nation's history.
Empty-suit worshippers. Pathetic.
....level playing field and all that.
I worked for B&N for six years while I was in college, and I did the same thing with the Conservative books (much to the displeasure of my coworkers).
BTW, it’s not that bad of a company to work for; if it’s the same as when I worked there, they give full health and dental benefits to their full-time employees (and even part-time employees that had worked as full-time employees for at least a year).
Yeah, right... error my ___! There is no way this was some little “oversight” or error on their part. On a separate thread someone was talking about this, and said that the only way his book would’ve come up was if someone added a tag (meta-tag?), or description that mentioned God - hence, a search for “God” a “Biography” turning up this book. I hope the person who did this is fired, but I wouldn’t hold my breath...
I’m pretty amazed that this guy actually got a real response though! Good for him - I loved his follow-up email...
“Every time I am in a B & N store I spend some time rearranging the books in the Current Affairs section to give pro Republican books better positioning on the shelves.”
****
I do that at the public library as well.
I didn’t even know they were still in business.
I know I’m going to get hit on this, but oh well. I did a search on B & N for “God: A Biography” and on the fourth page (I think), it came up with “Reagan Diaries.” Is anyone outraged now? I doubt it.
I DO NOT disagree with the guy in the story. I would hope a bookstore would keep politics out of their retail service. That’s one of the reasons I stopped shopping at Amazon. When the Franken book came out, and Amazon had a video promoting the book where a conservative got his ass beaten by Al and two other liberals, I emailed Amazon and told them I would no longer do business with them. I don’t go to an online store or any other store to get political commentary, I go there to buy a book or two. Thankfully, the B & N where I live has conservative books in open view and I don’t see the political bias, in this particular store.
Every single time I enter a bookstore I move all Noam Chomsky books to the Computer Programming section and turn all Jimmy Carter books around.
At the book isle in our grocery store I moved all the Democrat books to the fiction section.
I like asking for Ann Coulter books at B&N. She seems to really make the workers very angry. Usually her books are near the men’s room.
haha! I have tried that! I live in Hollywood and asking for Rush Limbaugh’s book causes the same bad vibes.
