Debra Burlingame: Boumediene v. Bush a Strategic Victory for al Qaeda
9/11 Families for a Safe & Strong America ^ | 6/12/08 | Debra Burlingame

Posted on 06/14/2008 11:21:28 AM PDT by NoGrayZone

"Justice Scalia is right that today’s opinion will result in the death of Americans. His words remind me of the beleaguered FBI agent, Harry Sammit, who pleaded with his superiors at FBI headquarters to be allowed to launch a nationwide manhunt for Khalid al-Mihdhar and Nawaf Al-Hazmi, two of the hijackers on my brother’s plane, 3 weeks before 9/11. He was turned down by the lawyers in the National Security Law Unit of the FBI, who cited the FISA law that prevented this intelligence information from being used by the criminal division. The point of that law — known as “the wall” — was CIVIL LIBERTIES protection for the terrorists who were the object of that never-launched manhunt, should they ever be caught and brought to trial. Sammit wrote in an email, on Aug. 31, 2001:"

“Someday someone will die…and the public will not understand why we were not more effective and throwing everything we had at certain problems. Let’s hope [the lawyers] will stand behind their decisions then, expecially since the biggest threat to us now, [bin laden], is getting the most protection.”

Please bookmark this wonderful site. I know, there have already been threads regarding this lame brained and dangerous decision. However, we cannot let it go under the rug.

I don’t agree with the court decision, but this article is really an exaggeration.

All the decision says is those held have the right to go to court. The government can tell the court “this is an enemy combatant captured on the field of battle”, and if they have any evidence to support that they will prevail.

In the future, our forces will turn over any captives to our local allies, or simply do their best to “take no prisoners”.

A much greater threat to our soldiers are the bogus charges brought against them that have disgraced and dishonored the legal services of our armed forces. Why would anyone wish to defend the USA, just to be charged with a crime for doing their duty?

The enemies of freedom can not win on the battlefield so they will rely on the courts to give them the competitive advantage... and so far, they seem to have done quite well.

This is really great but I’m afraid it is “preaching to the choir”. Too bad this wasn’t printed in all the major newspapers and on the Yahoo news (instead of the AP propaganda that everyone gets when they check their email).

And please tell me what is wrong with this when it applies to the scum who cut off the heads of civilians for media coverage?

if Congress did it’s job and defined the rules of conduct for the war and military, then SCOTUS wouldn’t have to be involved.

Like everything else, Congress won’t take a stand (abortion, gay marriage, etc) and instead leaves it to an unelected and unaccountable court to make the decisions that Congress should be doing. Spineless legislators not doing their duty. And this is truly a bipartisan problem.

And I think you are a terrorist sympathizer. I think you're on the wrong site.

"Boumediene v. Bush a Strategic Victory for al Qaeda.

This is good news for the poor al Qaeda fighters. Things just weren't going very well for them the past year or so.

If they can just hold on for a few more months, they will be able to claim victory in both Afghanistan and Iraq.

Lol, this entire site is “preaching to the choir”. Nothing stopping you, or anyone else, from sending “informative e-mails”. Hint hint, wink wink.....

And pretty soon, America. I pray there are enough of us to stand up and defend our country when that time comes.

Overly emotional posters such as you can damage the reputation of this website, which is perhaps not your intention. You ought to think before you post.

You people love to say that. Is there a “how to” book you all use?

This was no small insignificant event that happened in this country this week.

Yet it went relatively unnoticed by the general public.

Fuel prices make a great diversion for the MSM. You know, "He who controls the media....."

Damn, I haven’t even thought about that aspect. I was so busy being mad about it. Reading your words sent a chill down my spine.

I’m usually the one who tells the gals in the office “the latest” assult to our country. I was very upset on Thursday when I learned about it. Of course, everyone in the office “learned” about it as well.

Back in the scamnesty days, none of them knew that either. Most were pissed once informed, but not enough to compulsively call on an OCD level, like myself =).

Thank you Clinton administration in general and Jamie Gorelick in particular for ensuring America’s vulnerability to terror attacks.

Theye were living six miles from me here in San Diego and one of them was in the 2000 phone book.
Of course we all found out after the fact.

In this case, they did. They did it in response to previous Supreme Court decisions.

But SCOTUS didn't care about all that, and stuck their oar into those waters anyway.
