In this sense, as I've said before, Mr. Reagan did well. However, when things are shaken out in history, I think the populist award will go to Rush for awakening the political consciousness of the average American and articulating the philosophies of Americanism that many held but could not define or share with others in a rational way. In addition, Rush defined and matured the medium of talk radio. For all his vaunted intelligence, Newt was a failure in bridging the communication barrier between Washington and the common man. In fact, Newt's CV might even be something less than conservative.
Washington princes owe all of America their laurels and privilege but America owes Rush it's gratitude.

I’ve got news for you. They started before he died. He had fallen a few years before he died, and you could tell the MSM was in Reagan death-watch mode. All the news shows at that time had guests on that were talking about Reagan as if he HAD just died. They could hardly wait.

Reagan won two historic landslide elections, turned around a faltering economy and returned America to its military and leadership greatness. Gingrich, Armey and Lott stood with Reagan in the 1980`s to halt the march of liberalism. Rush was nowhere to be found.
Rush has never been elected to any position of public trust. Whatever Rush has done, doesn't begin to compare to the achievements and accomplishments of Ronald Reagan.
From the mid-1960`s, throughout the 1970`s, 1980`s and into the early 1990`s, Reagan was the active conservative leader in America. Your historic revisionism is ugly. Especially on conservative Free Republic.
Peggy Noonan has become increasingly batty through the years, maybe she was always that way and I was just missing it. She seems to believe every flowery phrase that flows from her typewriter or mouth is divinely inspired.
She also wanted to take credit for everything memorable Reagan ever said, as if she was his puppeteer. I sense a lot of narcissism in her every time I see or read her, than again, maybe it’s just me :)

True the libs celebrated when Reagan died but if memory serves me correctly, the people demanded to see coverage for several days of the funeral etc. The media had no intention of doing any of that.
I think what WVRockDJ was trying to convey: Rush and President Reagan play/played on different fields. Rush and Russert played on the same field together. We had a policy player and commentary/reporting players. Apples and oranges.
Nobody can deny that President Ronald Reagan is the father of modern conservativism. Nobody can deny that Rush has been modern conservatism's biggest cheerleader and press agent.
You have the audacity to come onto conservative Free Republic, post falsehoods about Reagan and expect no one to challenge you. That ain't gonna happen.
