Lautenberg Tops Zimmer, But Most Say He's Too Old
Quinnipiac University Polling Institute ^ | June 11, 2008

New Jersey U.S. Sen. Frank Lautenberg leads former U.S. Rep. Dick Zimmer, his Republican challenger, 47 - 38 percent in his reelection bid, according to a Quinnipiac University poll released today, but most voters say Sen. Lautenberg is too old to begin another six-year term.

Democrats back Lautenberg 80 - 11 percent, while Republicans back Zimmer 79 - 13 percent and independent voters back the Republican 43 - 35 percent, the independent Quinnipiac (KWIN-uh-pe-ack) University poll finds.

New Jersey voters approve 46 - 35 percent of the job Lautenberg is doing, his highest disapproval in 12 years of surveys. Democrats approve 63 - 19 percent, while Republicans disapprove 57 - 23 percent and independent voters split with 44 percent approving and 42 percent disapproving.

New Jersey doesn’t have a strong record of electing Republicans recently, but they’ve never been faced with the prospect of reelecting an undead Senator.

Frank Lautencadaver. What a joke. But the joke’s on us because this ass will be re-elected in a Democrat tide! All thanks to the GOP “leadership” spitting in the face of conservatives.

LOL, what about WV’s Sheets?

Bummed to hear Lou Dobbs doesn’t want to run for NJ gov, though - he would’ve been a hoot as a candidate.

I don't see the connection between GOP leadership spitting in the face of 'conservatives' and Lautenberg winning in NJ.

Bottom line: Jersey Joe and Murray Sabrin split the conservative vote, and now we're stuck with RINO loser Dick Zimmer, which is what I predicted would happen.

Basically we have to hold our nose and support Zimmer, and hope enough disgruntled Dems cross party lines to get him, though I don't see any scenario where this is possible.

New Jersey will vote for a cadaver before they vote for a Republican. Zimmer is going to lose.

I figured the Ras poll with Zimmer in a dead heat was baloney.

You mean “Brooklyn Joe.” He was raised in Kings County, NY. :-)

Who even knew Zimmer was back in the picture?? Where’s he been for 12 years. Though he is a moderate it was a shame he couldn’t beat Torricelli back in ‘96.

LOUSE-enberg probably will win. He managed to get reelected in 2002 even after saying he opposed the death penalty for terrorists so I knew then NJ was too far gone.

Let’s see. Lousenberg will probably be pronounced dead sometime in October at which point the Dims will get Toricelli to run and feeble Pubican objections will be overruled by the NJSC (see prior Lousenberg election precedent) on the grounds that NJ voters musat be able to vote for someone.

oh yeah, McCain is too old to be President. But we can put Lautenberg back in the Senate 15 years after his brain stopped functioning.

“oh yeah, McCain is too old to be President. But we can put Lautenberg back in the Senate 15 years after his brain stopped functioning.”

New Jersey, where i spent most of my life, is an absolute broken mess. The people of this once great state deserve all the very serious problems they have. Clearly, the majority of voters are complete idiots. The state is imploding and they keep electing the same idiots.
Idiots elect idiots....the state is doomed. It’s got nothing going for it anymore.

You may be right but unfortunately American doesn’t deserve the mess that spills over onto the rest of us with their 15 corrupted electoral votes and majority liberal congressional delegation which votes to install Pelosi in power.
