John McCain said Friday that the Supreme Court ruling on Guantanamo Bay detainees is one of the worst decisions in the history of this country. The presumptive GOP nominee said the decision, a 5-4 ruling Thursday that determined Guantanamo detainees have the right to seek release in civilian courts, would lead to a wave of frivolous challenges. We are now going to have the courts flooded with so-called
habeas corpus suits against the government, whether it be about the diet, whether it be about the reading material. And we are going to be bollixed up in a way that is terribly unfortunate because we need to go ahead and adjudicate these cases, he said at a town hall meeting in New Jersey. McCain said he has worked hard to ensure the U.S. military does not torture prisoners but that the detainees at Guantanamo are still enemy combatants. These are people who are not citizens. They do not and never have been given the rights that citizens in this country have, he said. Now, my friends, there are some bad people down there. There are some bad people. Barack Obama released a statement Thursday saying the Supreme Court decision ensures that we can protect our nation and bring terrorists to justice while also protecting our core values. The Courts decision is a rejection of the Bush administrations attempt to create a legal black hole at Guantanamo - yet another failed policy supported by John McCain, he said. This is an important step toward re-establishing our credibility as a nation committed to the rule of law and rejecting a false choice between fighting terrorism and respecting habeas corpus.

Now you’ve done it. He’s going to call you an Obama supporter now.
Tsk tsk
Thousands of habeas suits are filed by inmates every day, in every state of the union, claiming that their diet, their reading material, their mail status, their prison garb, their required haircut, their visitor status, etc. etc. etc. causes their imprisonment to be "unconstitutional."
Then they should be filing civil lawsuits under 42 U.S.C. Section 1983 -- NOT habeas actions. Habeas actions aren't used for such issues.
And if prisoners *are* mistakenly filing lawsuits using habeas (which would suggest they're filing pro se), this Supreme Court decision does nothing to change that, one way or the other.
I maintain that to suggest that the SCOTUS' decision in this case will lead to Gitmo detainees suing over diet, reading material, etc using habeas actions is, again, to fundamentally misunderstand the purpose of habeas actions.
La Raza is a bunch of nutcases cultivated by the Dems, who tried as hard as possible to lump Hispanics together with blacks. Hispanics actually do much better in American society, naturally even better if they learn English - which the Dems try very hard to prevent.
There is no love lost between blacks and Hispanics, since the black power structure has always tried to use Hispanics for its own purposes. Hispanics are immigrants, and like any immigrants, they have difficulties; but those difficulties would have been a lot less if the Dems hadn’t come out and claimed them at the border. I think some of them are realizing this, too, so I think it’s worthwhile for McCain to meet with various groups.
However, I don’t think La Raza is the place to do it, because they really don’t have a lot of following, are virtually unknown to any Spanish speaker who is not a Mexican-American from California, and are committed to a lot of positions that Latinos do not like.
Youtube clips are worthless without context and time stamps.
I swear, the Mccainiacs are becoming just about as rabid as the obamaiacs.
Insanity bump!
You won’t be voting for McCain, I take it. No problem, we are all entitled to our choices and to make our own mistakes despite the consequences suffered by others.
What’s the point in showing me a FR poll? That aside I can run a poll anytime I want and get any answer I want. Running an anti McCain poll on an anti McCain site is really quite silly, wouldn’t you agree?
Actually I think people like you who are so rabidly against the anti Obama candidate may be “sleeper” trolls.
He wanted them prosecuted on day 1 and not this 6 freakin’ years later everything is still in limbo.
And guess what? I FREAKIN’ AGREE WITH HIM! They should have been prosecuted long ago and Gitmo closed long ago!
Geez... this article is a positive article about McCain slamming the Supreme Court decision and all you can do is cry like a little irritating baby!
Be done. Piss off. I am going for a beer. It's the weekend. Have fun.
After careful review, I don't understand why McCain has been against Guantanamo.
Nor have I ever heard what he proposes as a substitute.
Enlighten me, please.
One suspects that John The Opportunist is chasing conservative votes with his objection to the SCOTUS decision.
At the same time, John The Opportunist is chasing independent/liberal votes with his stated desire to close Guantanamo.
John The Opportunist wants it both ways -- like a good opportunist should.
Read all my posts on this thread and you will be enlightened per your request. Spoon feeding hour is over. It's the weekend and I just popped my first beer. Have a good weekend.
*snicker*
You have just wounded my inner child. I don't know how I shall recover. On the other hand, I'd rather be pissed off than pissed on. Watch yourself now, nothing works the bladder like beer. May as well pick up some depends while you're going for the beer.
You’re wasting your breath on him. :)
Interesting. Other than rehashed fantasies, I fail to see a single link supportive of your arguments. How delightfully circular.
We still need enlightenment.

As I told you, the simple sequence of events are too much for you. Yes McCain wanted/wants Gitmo shut down. Jesus H. Christ we have been over that already. Get them prosecuted ASAP and close Gitmo ASAP thereafter.
