WASHINGTON - In a campaign dominated by the economy and the Iraq War, the Supreme Court's 5-4 ruling Thursday on detainees at Guantanamo marks a forceful reminder that John McCain promises one course and Barack Obama pledges another in picking future justices.

In the current controversy, McCain quickly expressed his disapproval of the opinion, while Obama issued a statement of support. It fell to outsiders to point out the broader implications in the race for the White House.

No doubt about it. The "OBAMANATION" must be kept out of the Oval Office. Unless of course, we want the end of Constituional law and freedoms in America. That is VERY clear.

I don’t think we’ll fare much better under McCain.

What needs to be remembered, and NOT FORGOTTEN is the fact that FIVE people on the SCOTUS have absolute control over the future of 300 MILLION American citizens’ lives, lifestyle, and the very existence of our Constitution and system of laws.

It is beyond FRIGHTENING when you think about it. That is why it is SO CRITICAL to make sure the SCOTUS returns to a body of law-obeying Americans, and not another Politburo ripping our Constitution apart. Which they are already hard at work on -—

The BEST McCain will come up with is a Souter or a Kennedy. he faces a VERY hostile Senate Judiciary committe and Congress.

NO WAY he gets anything better.

Three of today's five abominations were appointed by Republicans. Ford was a Rino along the lines of McCain. He gave us JP Stevens, who is still cursing us thirty three years later. The press billed him as a moderate. He's a full time liberal.

That's what we can expect from McCain, a known betrayer and liberal Republican. More Stevens’ and Souters. Swell.

“McCain has made it VERY clear, what his position on LIBERAL ACTIVISTS on the SCOTUS is.”

We should be worried about more than just liberal activists!

Think O’Conner.

Think Souter.

Obama issued a statement of support.

Is anyone surprised?

If he has any cajones, he will use the other powers he has to get decent, Constitutional justices. He has veto power, emergency powers, etc. he can bargain with. He will have to be tough, if he is. He cannot let the SCOTUS continue with a liberal majority.

We have nothing to worry about. If we just keep to our strategy of bashing McCain and vote against him because he is not the perfect conservative Obama will be so grateful that when elected he will defer to us on all matters simply because we will have proven we are more pure than all others. If not, then certainly a savior will ride in on his white horse, assume the presidency, dismiss the evil democrats and evil RINOs from congress, abolish the supreme court and rule as a perfect conservative. All will be well. (Or we could face reality and try to make the best of what we have.)

“All will be well. (Or we could face reality and try to make the best of what we have.)”

Obama is the express train to American Socialism.

McCain is the commuter train.

The final destination is the same.

The reality we have to face in that the Republican party has come unmoored from the Conservative base. That is what we have to deal with.

Please don’t take my post as personal criticism. In my defense, I have been confined to home today and made the mistake of reading FR post all day. I guess the doom and gloom has finally gotten to me.

I came up in a time when we were Americans first and republicans or democrats second. Regardless of who won the election, he was still “our” president and it was still “our” government. It seems that in recent years, it has become a constant fight, not just between democrats and republicans, but among conservatives, liberals, moderates, business, labor, and everything in between. We seem to have forgotten how to respect or opponent for being principled in their belief just as we are in ours. We so often seem to want to withdraw or bring the whole house down if we don’t get our way.

In this election cycle, for whatever reason, the conservative candidates did not get enough votes to make the cut for the final round. There will be another election ever four years and we can try again to achieve our goals. I am disappointed in this years choices also, but we have what we have and turning our back on the process will not make it better.
