Hi Radix....check out Post #409.
What did you drive in Germany?
My D-i-L has a good friend in San Diego. I’ve passed your request on to her.
Unfortunately the track is under water this weekend...severe floods have taken their toll around here as of late.
We’re fareing okay with just some minor “nusance-water” in the basement but many have lost everything around here.
With any luck we’ll be running in a few weeks at most.
Take care,
Gene
"Hi Radix....check out Post #409.

I was a "64 charlie ten" MOS (Military Occupational Specialty) 64C10
During the last year of my service I drove an AM General M60 tractor. Awesome truck. High torque Cummins motor with a 16 speed semi automatic transmission. No clutch, that is clutch was automatic. Those trucks were so powerful that they could outpull uphill and down a full load and leave Kamerad in the dust. Unfortunately for us yungins, we were not allowed to drive faster than 55 MPH while German truckers had a bit more leeway.
I wish that I had more time to put together a nicer response or even a thread. Thanks for the memories.

In September 1951, the 53rd Transportation Truck Battalion was deployed to Europe as part of the build up of US Forces in the defense of Western Europe. The Battalion was initially headquartered in Kaufbeuren but then moved to Kleber Kaserne, Kaiserslautern in Nov 1952. Kaiserslautern would serve as home station for HQ 53rd Trans Bn for over four decades until it was inactivated in 1995.
We used to call our International Harvester 2000D tractors 'Dogs", others called them "Duds".
Image above appears to be of a Dud pulling a Reefer.
Reefers were "refrigerated trailers." We pulled those to Commissaries all around Western Germany including (in my case) to Canadien Forces in the ScharzWald (Black Forest.)

We also used what we called "Forty Seventies" which were cabovers. "The unit/Driver sits over the engine."
Very cool, Radix.....thanks for the info and pics.
