The conversations are free-flowing but one name the vetters are inserting in the conversations is one that is not a household name... Ret. Gen. James Jones, the former Marine-turned-NATO Supreme Allied Commander.
Jones, a Vietnam vet born in Kansas City, MO (swing state alert!), was a career military officer rising to one of the highest posts possible. Now retired, Jones has been critical of the number of troops currently in Afghanistan. He's been appointed to independent posts by both the Democratic Congress and the Republican-run State Department
Jones currently is the president and CEO of the Institute for 21st Century Energy, which is an affiliate of the US Chamber of Commerce, not exactly the type of organization a typical Democrat gets involved with. Potentially problematic is that he's on Chevron's board. He also serves on the boards of Boeing and Invacare, a manufacturer and distributor of medical equipment. (Invacares slogan, ironically, is: Yes, you can.)
Being the least known potential veep, it shouldn't be surprising that the vetters have to spend more time on him in their various conversations on the Hill. But the fact that he's being, um, added to the very long short list, is an interesting development.
Besides Jones, the other names on the list bandied about with congressional Dems include (and not in any order): Hillary Clinton, John Kerry, John Edwards, Evan Bayh, Kathleen Sebelius, Ted Strickland, Mark Warner, Tim Kaine, Jim Webb, Bill Nelson, Jack Reed, Joe Biden, Chris Dodd, Tom Daschle, and Sam Nunn. You'll notice a few names NOT on this list (that's not my exclusion -- hint hint). Besides Jones, I'm told the two other names that invited extended discussion were Biden and Strickland.

I think Gov. Bill Richardson(?) may also be on the short list.
It shouldn’t take long for this guy to get labeled here on FR. Some form of the word traitor will probably be used as part of his description.
I would think that out of this list ... Kathleen Sebelius, Governor of Kansas would be the Dems best bet.
I would have thought Wesley Clark would have been on the list.
Besides Jones, of the people mentioned Bayh, Strickland or Kaine would make the most sense for B.O.
Sebelius would round out Obama’s infanticide infatuation.
Wasn’t she the Gov. that let that drive-through abortion doc run amok?
BOR did some work on the story at the time. I’ll backtrack the story
Gotcha - not allowed to criticize him, even if we find detrimental information.
I should think that being willing to advance any portion of Obama's political, military, social or economic agenda would automatically qualify one for the title.
Strickland only has a 55% positive rating in Ohio. He’d be easy pickings in a debate for almost any Republican VP candidate and has a record as a Congressman that invites criticism, on energy, on pedophilia...yes, he was one of thirteen members of Congress to vote against a resolution critical of an American Psychological Association report that found nothing inherently wrong with pedophilia. The others? Rep. Neil Abercrombie (D-HI), Rep. Thomas Allen (D-ME,)Rep. Brian Baird (D-WA), Rep. John Conyers (D-MI),Rep. William Delahunt(D-MA), Rep. Bob Filner (D-CA), Rep. Barney Frank (D-MA), Rep. Alcee Hastings (D-FL), Rep. E.B Johnson (D-TX), Rep. Patsy Mink (D-HI), Rep. James Moran (D-VA), and
Rep. Fortney Stark (D-CA). Strickland, in his own terms, left “a shallow footprint in Washington”, having sponsored....nothing in 6 terms. His record as governor is identical, he has proposed nothing, he has done nothing, despite having secret preelection “plans” for education and other issues.
She’s a bigtime lib and pro-abort, right?
Yes, perfect!
You can do anything you want, I’m just guessing at what may happen.
That’s what I’m talking about...
My money’s on Webb.
Folks have been calling me crazy for saying the same thing. The military and foreign affairs are his two biggest problem areas with uninformed voters. Webb or even Jones could fill that for those voters.
Jimmy “I Only Got Elected Because My Opponent Made A Very Stupid Mistake And I’m A Little Hot Head Know It All Who Only Worked For Reagan For 8 Months But I Don’t Want Anyone To Remember That” Webb, you mean him? Wouldn’t you love to see that scumbag debate Sarah Palin:

I just want to clarify that personally I wouldn't call Obama a traitor. He is not a traitor. But given his authoritarian instincts, his globalist worldview, his marxist policy agenda and his announced intention to unilaterally disarm the US at least from a nuclear perspective, I think it is fair to say that he is something very like it.
Look at it this way -- if he actually were a traitor, determined to destroy the US as a world power and a functional society, it's hard to see what he would be doing differently.
“has been critical”
Qualification #1, of course.
Can’t be too smart if he’d take that job...
