Jim Geraghty takes a look at longstanding blog buzz over Barack Obama’s birth certificate, which the campaign refused to release to the St. Petersburg Times in April:
We tried to obtain a copy of Obama’s birth certificate, but his campaign would not release it and the state of Hawaii does not make such records public.
Has anyone seen it? Why shouldn’t the record be in the public domain for presidential candidates?
Geraghty walks through various rumors now circulating in the wake of the Obama campaign’s birth certificate blackout, including this one:
Rumor Three: His mother did not want to name him after his father, and his birth certificate says “Barry.” Perhaps the most plausible of the rumors, as Obama was known by that name through much of his childhood and young adulthood. If true, this would spur a new round of “When Barry Became Barack” stories – a minor headache for the campaign, but hardly a major scandal.
Lest the Obama campaign start whining about this issue being an unfair “distraction,” John McCain underwent intense scrutiny of his citizenship status because of his birth in the Panama Canal zone, leading the Senate to declare him a natural-born citizen in April.
They’re as dangerous as Al Qaeda or any other Islamic terrorist group and need to be fought as aggressively as our troops fight the enemy in Iraq. We’re fighting the same enemies that our troops are. The enemies within, Liberals/Marxist, want to destroy us as much as any terrorist organization in the Middle East. That’s reality; like it or not.
But you have to wonder what his campaign is trying to hide by not releasing his birth certificate.
I don’t know if it’s true, but it would explain why he didn’t register with the Selective Service, as required.
Make that two grains of salt!
We, obviously, don’t have enough demands for purity as evidenced by Jimmah Carter, Bubba Clintoon, Nancy Pelosi, John Kerry, Jack Murtha, Harry Reid, Barbara Boxer, Dianne Feinstein and the rest of the corrupt elitists with dubious backgrounds. Had their backgrounds been scrutinized more throughly, they wouldn’t have served any office other than janitor.
True enough. But what if Barry is lying about something in his past. Isn't that an issue for someone running for president?

There must be SOMEone here on FR from Hawaii. Probably several folks. And probably someone who was born roughly the same time Obama was, in 1961.
To anyone who IS from Hawaii, and who may have been born there in the early 1960’s, a few questions:
1. Do you have your _own_ birth certificate around?
2. If you do, exactly what kind of information is on it, in what format?

If he was born in Kenya the issue is settled - - he's not eligible, period.
HERE is some very interesting information.

Amazing.
Has he proved that he can legally run for office?
If he was born in Kenya and his US citizen mother met the criteria, he could be considered a natural born citizen...but she does not meet that critera.

I’m guessing that both the RNC and the DNC have checked out his eligibility thoroughly, and if there was a problem, he wouldn’t have gotten this far.

What difference does that make? We have opened the floodgates for the Baracks and supplied them with free footwashing basins, while we fight them overseas. Makes a lot of sense, doesn’t it?
Maybe it doesn’t exist, which might be problematic since we are then asked to take him at his word that he was born in Hawaii.
If I maybe so bold that was brilliant.

Rush needs to get on the phone with some supporters from Hawaii, QUICK.
Someone there will be able to verify just what type of info appears on Hawaiian birth certificates from the early 1960’s.
Obama is hiding something. I sense that _what_ he is hiding must be more than insignificant, otherwise he would simply make his birth certificate public and be done with it.
What is he hiding?
Is there absolute proof that he _was_ “born in the USA”?
This may be a ridculous question, but is there such a thing as an “ex post facto” birth certificate, issued AFTER a birth, in any circumstances? If such a thing exists, has Hawaii ever issued them?
(by “after a birth”, I realize that a birth must occur for a certificate to be issued, so that issuance can never occur _before_ a birth. But just how long AFTER the actual birth will a certificate be issued? Could it be just hours, or a matter of days?)

Challenge him, then. Force his hand. Put it in play. Accuse him in court of a serious crime. You are permitted to swear that warrant if you have evidence, eh?
This is just another red-herring used to make Republicans look like idiots.
