Newsweek has a piece this week on Barack Obama titled His Jewish Problem: A Myth? that is an absolutely Herculean feat of water-carrying for the Illinois senator. But before tackling the factual problems, the articles biggest problem needs to be addressed Newsweek aids and abets the Obama campaigns decision to slander Joe Lieberman:
(From Newsweek) In a brief but animated Senate floor confrontation last week, according to a campaign aide who asked for anonymity when talking about private discussions, Obama told Lieberman he was surprised by Liebermans personal attacks and his half-hearted denials of the false rumors that Obama is a Muslim. (The aide says Lieberman was strangely muted during the exchange; a Lieberman spokesman says the chat was private and friendly.) (End Newsweek) ----
That is a surprising disclosure to read, because almost as a rule political aides dont go walking around leaking the contents of private conversations between senators on the Senate floor to the press. Its also hard to imagine that an Obama aide would accuse Sen. Lieberman of half-hearted denials of the false rumors that Obama is a Muslim and Lieberman would have nothing to say about that other than their conversation was private and friendly. ----

If you're wondering how low the Obama campaign will sink and how eagerly the media will abet them in their unfair attacks, you might want to take a look at my article on NRO today which details how Newsweek facilitates the Obama campaign's slandering of Joe Lieberman. The Obama campaign accuses Lieberman of "half-hearted denials of the false rumors that Obama is a Muslim," an accusation which demonstrably not true, and Newsweek printed without bothering to ask Lieberman about it.
After reading my article, Geraghty notes that Newsweek has established quite the pattern of being in the tank for Obama and Jennifer Rubin over at Commentary asks some relevant questions:
How smart is it of the Obama camp to antagonize a revered figure in the Jewish community? Is this showing tact and diplomatic skills or a tendency to bully and bluster? I suspect it will change Senator Liebermans conduct and behavior not at all.
On that last point, Lieberman's office emailed me this morning with another statement, following up on what they told me for my article: "If the Obama campaign thinks they are going to intimidate Joe Lieberman with these sleazy tactics then they are sorely mistaken."

Don’t mess with Joe!!!
Seen that confrontation on “H & C” last night?
Nope- I missed it last night.
While Lieberman and I are at opposite ends of the political spectrum- I couldn’t help but give a cheer for this from his office this morning:
“If the Obama campaign thinks they are going to intimidate Joe Lieberman with these sleazy tactics then they are sorely mistaken.”
Sen. Obama should talk to Ned Lamont about how Sen. Joe is not to be messed around with.
Sen. Obama should talk to Ned Lamont about how Sen. Joe is not to be messed around with.
Lieberman is only about one car jacking away from being a Republican. Of course, then he’s still several muggings away from being a consertive, but he’s getting closer every day.
The man doth protest too much.
?
The few remaining subscribers to Newsweek are either illiterate, not paying attention, or in the tank for “progressives.”
In fact, the above options aren’t mutually exclusive, either.
Delicious!!!
Bringing those Chicago-style street thug tactics to the US Senate. That is sure to work. LOLOL.
Obama has a Jewish problem that is much greater than Joe Lieberman.
The big reason McCain is dominating the polls in Florida, is because few Jews will support Obama.
Obama was recently endorsed by the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem. Their ideas about several important subjects coincide very closely.
It’s not surprising that someone in the orbit of Louis Farrakhan might have a “Jewish problem”.
Wonder if this is to feed the rad Kos types some red meat?
Few Baptist , or Catholics, will support Obama either.
Whatever else you can say about Joe Lieberman, good or bad, it’s clear that he won’t be intimidated. The Rats in Connecticut found that out the hard way, and I expect Obama will too.

I’m confused. As far as I can tell, the Lieberman people claimed that the “anonymous Obama staffer” was lying and that he and Joe had a friendly conversation. What is the jist of this whole thing supposed to be? I swear, “blogs” have dumbed down politics so badly.
