Now that the general election ads are officially starting, I would recommend re-using this ad, with the minor change of cutting out the Newsweek quote, which doesn't read well at all.
This ad works because of the amazing war footage which tells the story for him, rather than him explaining that he was a POW, as the newest ad does.
This is a powerful ad and the only one that shows him crying, as he recalls how he was injured, and seems emotionally shattered having to explain to his captors how his arms and leg are broken. You can see from his expression of pain that he, a young pilot, is devastated that this has happened to him.
The message is clear. This man has suffered for his country and dedicated most of his life to serving America. He's real, he has feelings, and he cares.
I keep thinking McCain will find the tunnel with the light at the other end, but so far he is looking in all the wrong places.
This thread is to cheer you up. This is a great ad: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ywXFhulpVPk
“Well, if McCain closes Guantanamo, where will they go?”
Certainly not into American society. Supermax is segregated from American society.
“how long before the ACLU forces taxpayer funded lawyers for them?”
This doesn’t even make any sense. They already have taxpayer funded lawyers at Gitmo. It’s always been this way. Even the German POWs that were brought here and executed had legal representation.
>> Are you still concerned that maybe there is someone here who isnt familiar with them? ...What do you think?
Well, since you asked...
I think that a conservative web site like FR ought to scream long and loud, every chance we get, about the crap he intends to pull.
Why? Here’s two reasons that come to mind right off the bat.
a) Sharpen our arguments against his crappy policies: if he gets elected we’ll be calling our congress critters a lot, to try to rein him in (remember the shamnesty battle?). I think, so we should have internalized and rehearsed our points quite well.
b) Don’t you think his campaign staff comes here? Wouldn’t it be better if they see that what support he has is GRUDGING, not willing? And shouldn’t they understand why? Or would you rather they go back and report that “Free Republic worships you! They think you walk on water, John!”
I know who I'll be voting for.
OK, let me expand on that: the ACLU and the Congress will be fighting to treat them as criminals, with ALL rights afforded to citizens, NOT POW detainees, once on American soil. And John McCain will be their useful idiot.
By the way, he’s also wrongheaded about the whole torture thing.
>> Take a look at the article part of my post. The post, not the comments in the thread. It is about the One Man ad.
Roger. My bad.
“back then he was tortured by the communist North Viet Namese, now he’s in a contest with Marxist/socialist commie sympathizers”
To see who can go further left?
>> already seen the hater screed
Come off it.
Calling honest differences with John McCain’s self-avowed liberalism “hater screed” is just a little bit over the top, don’t you think?
Tell you what, that sort of attitude is not conducive to gaining support.
“Hes the nominee and hell fight the war on islamic terrorism.”
So many ways to answer that but I’ll just go with a couple;
1. It’s not the only issue in the election, it’s not even the most important issue.
2. What good is fighting the war overseas if you are overrun at home by third-worlders that hate you almost as much as the terrorists do?
3. What good is fighting the war overseas when those soldiers come home the civilian jobs that they might have gone to have now been shipped to China and India because THEY are not stupid enough to Cap their economy in some dumbass scheme to fight an imaginary foe?
The war on Islamic terrorism IS the most important issue right now. Read Mark Steyn’s “America Alone.”
Maybe you aren’t one of those people, Nervous Tick, but when someone goes on every single McCain post to call him various derratory names, give the same tiresome list of grievances (McCain-Feingold, global warming, amnesty, etc.) and shriek about being a real conservative who won’t vote for him EVERY SINGLE THREAD, it becomes a hater screed.
We have yet to hear McCain acknowledge the gathering storm of Islamic extremism within our borders. We have yet to hear McCain say he will close our borders and go after Islamic haters operating in US boundaries.
If he is tough, he is going to have to get tougher, otherwise he is just selling us BS he thinks he knows about, like fighting in the ME, but ignoring the onslaught of Islam in the US.
Your post is correct, the idiotic Obama supporters have yet to figure out that there is a fight on Islamic terrorism. Free stuff is more compelling. The RATs will elect Obama on issues regarding the economy.
None of these candidates is worth a tinkers damn. High time to just say “no”. Let the failure of liberals fall on the Democrats.
“The war on Islamic terrorism IS the most important issue right now.”
Not according to any poll I’ve seen.
Megalomania? If you think McCain has that try examining Obama. Sheesh.
The legislation already restricts these rights. It has already passed. McCain voted in favor of this legislation. It was Obama that opposed it.
OCD can't be reasoned with.
It’s hard to tell if you have a sense of humor from your tagline, but surely you jest.
“but surely you jest”
I assure you that I do not.
