Sounds like the Polish “invasion” of Germany on 9/1/39.

My thoughts too.

According to the Germans, Polish soldiers attacked and occupied the radio station in Gleiwitz on or about August 31, 1939, and broadcast inflammatory statements summoning the Polish minority in eastern Germany to take up arms against Hitler. This act of "Polish aggression" justified the Nazi invasion of Poland on September 1, 1939.

In fact, the attack was staged by SS troops specifically to provide a pretext for the German invasion. SD chief Reinhard Heydrich had been put in charge of Operation Himmler in which SS troops dressed in Polish uniforms attacked the station and broadcast the aforementioned statements. The bodies of several concentration camp inmates, also wearing Polish uniforms, were left behind to display to foreign correspondents.

ONly thing is, Columbia is hardly poland. They have the best equipped military in South America. I’d be happy to have them invade and depose Chavez, backed by our hardware of course.

What odds, Chinese news got the scoop.

Not really. It's already been posted (from a different news service.)

You betcha. That's why I doubt very seriously that this story is true -- Chavez would get his ass handed to him and he knows it perfectly well. He probably killed some peasants in the countryside and is trying to claim some kind of military success.

Anyone who has been following events can safely assume Colombia has the most finely-honed military on the Southern Continent: FARC, ELN, Pablo Escobar, etc. They’ve been beefed up and modernized considerably in the last five years and would happily give Chavez a butt-waxing if he tried anything.

In the recent contretemps over the cross-border raid which bagged Raul Reyes and his hard drives, no one seriously believed Ecuador and Venezuela would actually do anything silly.

I’m with #5. This is Chavez’ first massacre of dissidents. He probably dressed their corpses in uniforms and dumped them in a border location. We’ll see if he succeeds in fooling anyone.

As I said at the time, "Chavez and his hand-puppet in Ecuador are sending their sissy-boys to the Colombian border because they know the drive-by media will reliably [and incorrectly] report this as a 'very serious' response to Colombia's violation of their sovereignty, and a dramatic increase in the 'tensions in the region.' Meanwhile, they'll ignore the real story that Colombia now has the smoking gun on Chavez' funding of FARC."

Sure enough, the dinosaur media dutifully took the Chavez smokescreen and pretended there was the possibility of an all-out war in South America.

Half of FARC's top commanders are dead. I pray every night that Uribe -- the George Washington of Colombia -- will send the rest of them to hell where they belong. Meanwhile, to our everlasting shame, our Congress refuses to send even the smallest gesture of relief to our only true friends and allies South of the Rio Grande.

I read the WSJ article of last week. It seems the Counter-insurgency handbook has received an illustrious addition.

Great job with the SIGINT, especially. FARC has been reduced to using message-runners.
