By Wednesday morning, Hillary and Obama will up neck and neck in popular vote, give or take 100,000 votes between them.
That means the pressure will be on for him to make her his running-mate.
But she may not be interested. In fact, she will likely turn down recruiting efforts.
If you take the Clintons at their word Obama is doomed to failure so why would she want to go down in flames with him this fall against McCain?
Its not like she hasnt made this perfectly clear. Her feelings about Obamas inadequacies have been articulated and broadcasted for months.
She has said he is an untried rookie who shouldnt get the nod and cant beat McCain. Her character assassination has been subtle but effective: The reference to Bobby Kennedy. Her doubts about his beliefs, (hes Christian or so they tell me). Her attacks on his manhood. Her husbands description of Obamas entire campaign as a fairy tale.
All these statements and others will be generously splashed across Republican ads this fall to the point that some voters, who only wake up to their democracy during elections, may actually think she is McCains running-mate.
Joining the Obama teams means she will have shot herself in the foot beforehand.
So what emerges is what I believe is the Clinton no-lose strategy.
They have used Obamas unelectability as their excuse to continue running against him even though they cannot win because, by saying hes unelectable, they help in part to bring about his defeat.
His defeat by McCain would make them look really smart and also set them up for the nomination and run in 2012. This is based on their professed logic that only Hillary can win against McCain; McCain will be a one-termer because he will be decrepit in four years and there will be a job vacancy in 2012 for the White House. The tricky part for Hillary will be to appear to be a team player if she declines the VP slot or isnt even asked. Obama will offer both of them something in return for a few stump speeches made in between long absences from the campaign due to exhaustion.
This is the week
Thats why this week will be great fun to watch because the delegate arithmetic simply doesnt work after Tuesday. And the real Hillary will be revealed in one of two scenarios:
If she becomes Obamas running mate, which makes party sense now because she has damaged him among some Democrats, it will be because she never believed a word she said about his unelectability in the first place. She and Bill will also make his life, and presidency should he win, miserable, according to former advisors like Dick Morris.
If she rejects offers to become the running-mate or play a major administration role, then she believes Obama has no chance, she is not a team player and is willing to have Americans endure one term of McCain so she can take up White House residency in 2012.
Take your pick.
I think she is dead on. Obama is a doomed candidate. But if he did win a Veep Hillary would make his life miserable.
Need a poll...Would she take VP? I vote NO!
I concur. I also think she will make sure he sinks badly, thus she can get on the sunday shows and “SEE I TOLD YOU SO”
Turn on the TV. sit back, grab the remote, open a cool one, and pop some popcorn. Its going to be a fun week.
I am anticipating it.
Hillary just won a no-vote non-state election.
I still think Mrs KKKlinton plans to take the nomination at the convention.
Why would Hillary accept an Obama offer of the vice-presidency? She's already been the vice-president (just ask her). She wants to be the big cheese, the boss of all bosses, if for no other reason than to be able to sic her Secret Service agents on Bill if he so much as tries to wiggle out from under her thumb.
If the whip ever winds up in Hillary's hand, watch out Bill and watch out America...
Veep could be a path to the presidency much quicker than waiting for 2012. Hussein has some undiagnosed health problems which will show up at the appropriate moment. He is also probably terribly clumsy.
I think she doesn’t want to help him get elected by being his VP and would rather take her chances that he loses this year. She’d be pretty old to run after sitting in the VP office for 8 years. She doesn’t want to be second fiddle to someone she considers her inferior either. And I’m sure the last thing she wants to do is go back to the Senate.
On the other hand, she will, if Obama loses, have a great argument that she is the top vote getter in the party. Dingy Harry will be hearing footsteps. The left wing of the party will be discredited and dispirited. The beast will still be in a great position. If she takes VP, she opens herself to defeat and dilution of her "brand".
There are so many reasons why Obama would be a complete fool if he considered Hillary Clinton as his running mate. Just to start, as pointed out by Dunlap on Red State Update, why would Obama want a vice president that would be everyone’s first suspect if he got shot. But even if he survived, how could he deal with the Clintons: Hillary posturing as co-president while trying to build her own power base for 2012, and Bill jumping up and down in the background waving his arms and shouting “Look at me! Look at me!”

B.O. is stupid, but not that stupid.
Hillary will make nice with B.O. in exchange for a speaking role at the convention. She will then make a few campaign appearances for him, just enough so she can say that she tried to help him get elected.
Hillary will be back in 2012.
She is hoping that B.O. will lose the general election, so she can run for the nomination on a "I told you not to pick that loser" platform. If B.O. actually gets elected President, then she will do like Teddy Kennedy in 1980 and run against a democrat incumbent.
is primadonna hillary a
team play?er
Only on McCain’s ticket.
Tin foil hat time. I never believed Hillary could stand up to a full campaign. I wondered how she would get passed the primary without being damaged. As I see it, this is all an act. Obama role is/was to run interference for Hillary, to take the heat if you would.
Regardless, Hillary has made it through this primary without really taking any heat and by being on the “right” of Obama she comes across as a moderate.
I will not be surprised if she is not the Democrat’s candidate, futher, I will not be surprised if Obama does not ask his supporters to support her.
Why would Obama do this, easy, the Clintons have something on him, something that will take him out if he does not play ball.
The fix has been in since day one.
This is of course all speculation we will soon see. I will now take off my tin foil cap.
Agree completely. She will lay waste to the entire DemocRAT party if that is what it takes.
Masters at stealing elections, Barak & Clinton are
deadlocked because they both play by Alinsky’s rules.

Interesting. Wish they could cancel each other out.
