GOP is indeed stupid for its timidity
Herald Mail ^ | 5/31/08 | JAMES H. WARNER

I cannot remember who first called the Republican Party the "stupid party," but recent events show that our party has earned this name. The very issues with which the Democrats are attacking the Republicans in the current campaign are issues on which Democrats are especially vulnerable. However, the stupid party seems not to have noticed.

First, look at Social Security. Obviously, Social Security must be reformed, the sooner the better. But when President Bush asked Congress to reform it, and permit private accounts to be included in Social Security, Congress (which was controlled by the stupid party at the time) refused. Congressional Democrats exclaimed that this would be "risky." Not one Republican pointed out that if the same amount of money as is paid into Social Security were used to purchase an annuity from an insurance company, it would return between five and eight times what Social Security would return.

In other countries, in which retirement funds have been reformed to include private accounts, retirees actually receive much higher returns for what they have paid in than Americans.

If one considers insurance companies "risky," one could purchase several annuities instead of one. If one bought four annuities, and two of the insurance companies failed (when did the last insurance company fail, to the extent that the insured had no coverage at all?) the retiree would still receive two and one half times what he would have received from the current system. The stupid party could not make this case.

Congressional Democrats, who have gullibly swallowed the global warming hoax, insist that we must all switch to toxic light bulbs. There are several problems with these light bulbs, none of which a single member of the stupid party has articulated. One of the most pressing, in my mind, is the threat that eventually, enough of these light bulbs will end up in landfills to begin to poison our ground water with mercury.

Yet, whatever may be the threat, the reality is that everyone in America would have to use these bulbs for 100 years before there would be any result at all in CO2 levels. The stupid party is unable to think of a single reason these light bulbs are a bad idea.

We are told that by the year 2011 we can expect rolling brownouts in Maryland, since there will not be sufficient electrical power to satisfy expected demand. Has anyone in the stupid party pointed out that Democrats have blocked the construction of nuclear power plants for many years?

How is it that Democrats with degrees in political science can trump the arguments of the engineers who design these plants? Have you ever heard anyone from the stupid party point out that every single day, most coal-fired power plants release more radioactivity, in the form of a radioactive isotope of thorium, than the total released at Three Mile Island?

Democrats have blocked Americans from drilling off the coast of Florida, but have done nothing about the plans of China to extract our oil less than 50 miles from Florida. Democrats have blocked the construction of oil refineries for the last 30 years. Democrats have refused to permit us to extract shale oil, the most abundant oil resource in the world. If the stupid party cannot pin the tag on Democrats for the price of gasoline at the pump, let alone any of these other issues, they will deserve the defeat which seems certain this November.

I cannot remember who first called the Republican Party the “stupid party,”

John Stuart Mill was the first, I believe, to refer to Conservatives as “the stupid party”, and in all this time it doesn’t seem much has changed. ;)

The wholesale defeat of the Republican party candidates, up and down ticket in November is the only cure for this stupidity.

The country club corrupt elite Republicans will be forced to leave the party, and like Squat McClellan, trash it, and become openly DemoRats, in order to get mercy from their DemoRat masters.

What happens to the Republican brand is unsure, conservatives may be able to take control and rebuild it like they did before, but liberal Republicans must be kicked out. There is a place for them in the DemoRat party, as shoe shine boys.

Nope...they will just be carried over on their wealth until the next election when they crawl out of their whole to scam the American public of some more of their hard earned cash. If the Chinese only knew that the are all just more potential suckers...hmmmm customers they would have nothing to do with any of us. The elites at the top of both parties are infested with criminals and scam artist with lots of cash and power. We would have to dump both parties to clean out the infestation. Your plan is like killing the workers but leaving the queen Bee.

The best start is to crush the dynasties. We may be on the way to that after the Romney and Clinton defeats.

Both parties need a flushin'

I have never been associated with the Libertarian Party, so I identify myself as a "small-l libertarian" to avoid confusing with the L-Party.

You might try this google search:

Google small-r republican on FreeRepublic

You've got lots of company right here on FR.

“The leadership of the GOP/RNC are run by spineless, gutless, gonad-less good for nothings, IMO. They are the reason we’re in the toilet bowl today.”

Exactly right. And the reason that they are so timid is that when they get into office they see the vast array of force that is the MSM and academia etc firring away madly at their very heads every time they have the temerity to stick them up and say something.

The dangerous result of this is that, due to the basic natures of the sides involved wherin the most hardcore Leftists go into a line of work that puts them on the front so to speak, and the most hardcore rightwingers have actual lives that don't involve ramming their beliefs down everyons throat, there is an imbalance in the front between the two parties. The toughest most vicious leftwingers the party has are facing off against rightwingers who are afraid and timid. That is to say that the toughest most vicious rightwingers are BEHIND the front. So the Left keeps winning and pushing us back and will continue to do so right up until they go too far....and then the trouble will start.

Bush wasn't...He bucked the system on both sides. That's why they hate him. He didn't play the go along game.

He is likely the last of his kind and somewhat of an anomaly. He was raised to be a get along guy.

You can bet that Obama is foolish enough to fall for every wind of PC that comes along.

If the Libertarian party would quit trying to nominate oddballs maybe they could win something. There isn't a single person on the planet that didn't have to squirm over Ron Paul and his childlike social skills. Even so..Paul had a huge turnout. That was a shock to most people who took notice.

The American people are really really p*ssed at both parties right now...and they know it.

I hoped Ron Paul would be a little more careful in his discourse, so as to avoid the taint of his more radical followers. But he loved playing to them.

The Dems nominate far-left oddballs like Obama because it pleases the most motivated members of their party -- i.e. the ones who come out and vote their beliefs, such as they are.

Likewise, the most motivated libertarians pushed for Ron Paul because despite being somewhat loony, he energized the libertarian base (including all the weirdos, *sigh*).

The Pubbies haven't got that kind of motivation going this year.

> Even so..Paul had a huge turnout. That was a shock to most people who took notice.

I for one certainly took notice.

> The American people are really really p*ssed at both parties right now...and they know it.

I'll be fascinated to see if anything comes of it. The 2-party system is pretty entrenched. I dislike it intensely, and wish for a return to voting for the candidate instead of for the juggernaut that prints up his/her campaign lit and calls me at dinnertime with an automated voice telling me who I should vote for.

The number of FReepers who claim to be conservatives, yet who are bending over and taking it up the @$$ for John McCain this year is shocking. We'll never see any viable conservative candidates make it to the elections again, at that rate.

Me, I would vote for Barry Goldwater in an instant. Hell, the way things are going, I'd vote for the GHOST of Barry Goldwater if I could! ;-)

Hey, there's a write-in for ya: "Ghost of Barry Goldwater". Hmmm-mm...

Yep. All those vetos, all that standing up for his nominees when Congress stalled 'em, all that holding the line against Kennedy's education bill....

I’m voting for McCain because he is not part of the in crowd of the corrupt establishment and he isn’t a commie and he will be a pain in the arse to a lot of the sell outs in our own party. That’s about all we have left to make our vote count for something. I’m taking an unpopular stance on FR because most people haven’t seen some of the progress that McCain has made with his faith...but so be it. The Founders were not yes men either.

“The leadership of the GOP/RNC are run by spineless, gutless, gonad-less good for nothings”

I think this is a pretty good description of voters that continue to vote for RINO’s because they have seniority. You can’t have change unless you vote for change.

Which is why I’m turning a deaf ear to R.N.C. pleas for donations.
Until the Republican party gets rid of RINOs and once again is the party of less govt.
less govt. intrusion
No abortion
No amnesty for illegals
No to the homosexual agenda
Etc. then I am not interested in supporting the party I’ve supported for 35 years

The leadership of the GOP/RNC will continue to maintain power as long as we vote for them. Whenever we say, “I’m voting for X, only because Democrat Y is worse”, our POS leadership stays in power.

>> Country Club Republicans have more in common with the elitist Left than they do with the base.

THAT’S the reality.

Given time to bear fruit, big-government Republicanism is all but indistinguishable in result from big-government Democratism.
