VETERAN model Lauren Hutton has attacked Sex And The City's portrayal of promiscuous women and blamed "gay writers" for creating the stereotype that single women are "sluts". While Hutton admitted she had not seen an episode of the hit US TV series, she went on to claim it promoted the untrue myth that it's natural for women to be sexually promiscuous. "It's written by guys, who happen to be gay, who are sluts. That's what I think. Let's face it most men are sluts. "That's what testosterone is supposed to do. As a hunter, if you stayed alive after 30, nature wanted your genes out there. "Women were just trying to get the best sperm to make a masterpiece. "You have a bunch a guys who are sluts, writing for women and telling them they are supposed to act like this."

You are missing the point. The point is that the show depicts hetero women acting like those gay men who carry on a superficial, promiscuous lifestyle. It doesn't matter who the women are having the superficial, promiscuous sex with.

"I'm actually amazed that a woman didn't get to this first, but I think there's something about being a guy, and maybe having the perspective on women's lives that maybe women don't have themselves. As a writer, it is always fun to imagine yourself in someone else's shoes. Women are really emotional creatures and men are kind of closed in terms of emotions. Even Marge Simpson has recognised the secret to Sex and the City. “That’s the show about four women acting like gay guys,” she said in a recent episode of The Simpsons.
For Sex and the City, it seemed the formula was to write gay male and cast straight female. Its (gay) creator, Darren Star, devised one of the gayest hit series featuring straight characters in television history.
As The New York Times noted two years ago, openly gay writers and producers have been transforming TV comedy since Ellen came out in the late 1990s. The result has been hit sitcoms such as Will & Grace and “lots of nudging and winking” in shows focusing on heterosexual characters.
Even in less accepting times, many saw old shows such as The Odd Couple, Cagney and Lacey and The Golden Girls as having a gay sensibility, even though the central characters were heterosexual.
And what about Frasier? One gay spokesman, as quoted in The New York Times, saw it as a show about “two stereotypical gay men, except they sleep with women”.
I saw the show when we had free hbo. It wasn’t a favorite but it did have some really funny scenes.
Sometimes I watch it now on reg cable. It’s no worse than General Hospital imo.
It’s entertainment. Sometimes it’s funny, sometimes not so much. Just like every other sitcom, imo.
I was surprised it was being made into a movie. Didn’t realize it was that popular.
I disagree about Carrie in the committed relationship - she’s sleeping with a married man, cheats on her boyfriend with the same married man, etc. Just like soap operas. Still doesn’t make it right.
I don’t think it’s a bad show. It’s a sitcom, not reality, just like all the other sitcoms/soaps. There’s some really hilarious scenes and dialogue, imo.

Can’t say I’ve ever watched any series in the history of television to be able to say that much about the characters and episodes! I’m awestruck.......
I had heard “bee-stung lips” and “goose’s anus” separately to describe the look. I just put them together.
Openly gay people don’t have anonymous sex in public restrooms and behind the bushes in public parks? Too much generalization. Many of the exhibi-fags who’re shoving large phalli into fecal orifi while riding naked on top of floats in San Francisco parades are also openly gay. Many wide-open gays often seem to enjoy being seen nakedly active in semi-public places.
I’m sure they are some, but there are also some straight people that are into that. I think the whole highway restroom scene exists because it’s a way for married gay men to have enjoyable sex without being caught by their wives and with a person that doesn’t know them, so that it won’t ever get back to them later.

It's about feminism and the sexual revolution, where women can treat men like men treat them, as merely sex objects.

Says who? Women don't have relationship and sexual problems that they discuss with their girfriends? There are no professional women that want sex without all the emotional baggage (Miranda)? There are no women that have intimacy and trust issues possibly due to past abuse and yearn to be loved so much that they develop a sexual addiction (Samantha)? There are no women who love a man so much that they keep going back to them even when the men emotionally abuses them (Carrie)? I beg to differ and I'm sure the statistics are on my side.
The whole "gay" issue surrounding this show came from a Marge Simpson remark and a follow up editorial on it by a man who apparently has formed an opinion without ever watching the show, kind of like you have. While the Simpsons is a great cartoon, I don't think I'd recommend relying on it for opinions based in reality.
