Bob Dole unloads on McClellan
Bob Dole yesterday sent a scalding email to Scott McClellan, excoriating the former White House spokesman as a "miserable creature" who greedily betrayed his former patron for a fast buck.
In an extraordinary message obtained and authenticated by Politico, Dole uses his trademark biting wit to portray McClellan as a classic Washington opportunist.
"There are miserable creatures like you in every administration who dont have the guts to speak up or quit if there are disagreements with the boss or colleagues," Dole wrote in a message sent yesterday morning. "No, your type soaks up the benefits of power, revels in the limelight for years, then quits, and spurred on by greed, cashes in with a scathing critique."
Michael Marshall, Dole's spokesman and colleague at the Alston Bird law firm, confirms the message came from the former senator and presidential candidate. "Yes, it is authentic," Marshall wrote in an email.
"In my nearly 36 years of public service I've known of a few like you," Dole writes, recounting his years representing Kansas in the House and Senate. "No doubt you will 'clean up' as the liberal anti-Bush press will promote your belated concerns with wild enthusiasm. When the money starts rolling in you should donate it to a worthy cause, something like, 'Biting The Hand That Fed Me.' Another thought is to weasel your way back into the White House if a Democrat is elected. That would provide a good set up for a second book deal in a few years"
Dole assures McClellan that he won't read the book -- "because if all these awful things were happening, and perhaps some may have been, you should have spoken up publicly like a man, or quit your cushy, high profile job"
"That would have taken integrity and courage but then you would have had credibility and your complaints could have been aired objectively," Dole concludes. "Youre a hot ticket now but dont you, deep down, feel like a total ingrate?"
He signs the email simply: "BOB DOLE"
Absolutely nailed it. Well done Senator Dole.
Right on!
AMEN to Bob Dole!
I think this gives the WH and Republicans a second (or 3rd, or4th) chance to go on the offensive on the ridiculous character assassination that has taken place the past 4 years - no sufficient response has come out to date.
That Viagra seems to be working.
:)
Good to see the Senator hasn’t lost his ability to drill right to the substance of the problem.
Coupled with the fact that this is the Sex and the City Weekend and most of the alleged audience for this particular type of rubbish will be wiping the drool off their chins and gazing down cleavage and up skirts about now, I figure this book will soon join that one by the woman named Kitty who did the last hack job on the Bushes.
Not only is McClellan everything Dole called him, but he’s a master of poor planning.
Like he said, there are always one or two Scott McClellan’s around. Nobody really likes guys like him, they are simply useful idiots.
It will be interesting how this is spun by the Lame Stream Media. Kudos to Mr. Dole.
When is the Dole / McCain spine transplant surgery scheduled?
That is AWESOME out of Sen Dole — he nailed McClellan!
Excellent!
Kudos to Bob Dole.
Bless you Bob....you said it all.
Bravo, Bob Dole! Well done. Scott M. is the kind of weasel who accomplished nothing, contributed nothing, said nothing about his supposed concerns, yet now turns out this pathetic ghost-written attack on the admin. he served so badly.
Of course, Andy Card and Pres. Bush and others must bear responsibility for ever employing a weasel like SM in the first place. All through SM’s tenure in 2003-06 I gagged at the spectacle of such a milquetoast clown proving completely unable to articulate or defend WH policy. It was a ghastly spectacle, and those who put him in that position are at fault.
The failures to adequately defend and explain admin. policy have been very harmful. The absurd lack of understanding of the real nature of Plamegate continues to appall me.
Great letter from Sen Dole, he’s right on!
Probably at the direction of McCain. Remember when Dole was emailing Romney?
Sha-zaam... I didn’t know the ol’ boy had it in him.
Good for him.

He's always been a stand-up guy.
“miserable creature”?
That’s a good one.
