McCain, Conservatives Clash on Immigration Once Again
The Philadelphia Bulletin ^ | May 27, '08 | Joe Murray

Posted on 05/29/2008 2:05:51 PM PDT by T.L.Sink

After adjusting his immigration stance when his comprehensive immigration bill died last summer, John McCain, now with the Republican nomination in hand, has once again ruffled conservaive feathers on the immigration issue by returning to the position that almost stopped his campaign dead in its tracks. Last week McCain joined California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger in supporting a "comprehensive" immigration plan. "Sen. Kennedy and I tried very hard to get a comprehensive immigration plan through Congress. We must make it a top agenda item," McCain said. But the Arizona senator's staunch defense of such a comprehensive package at the expense of border security almost cost him the Republican nomination. The grassroots revolt was not lost on a McCain camp left practically broke, financially and politically, by the issue. But McCain's decision to reintroduce comprehensive immigration reform to the presidential debate after securing the GOP nomination has raised concerns the Arizona senator is returning to his amnesty roots. McCain is scheduled to address the annual La Raza convention in July, making him the first Republican to go. La Raza is a controversial Hispanic rights group criticized for its separationist sentiments and open border advocacy.

John McCain is nothing more than a socialist. I wonder where the RINOpublicans are to defend this dirtbag POS traitor.

McCain is screwed, not me. I am voting for Barr.

Let’s send McCain home in November a bitter and broken man.

He has betrayed America.

Who is John Galt?

“It might be juvenile to some...but I know of no other effective way to get McCain’s attention except by hitting him in the wallet. “

That is the only way to fight any of them. That ($$$) is their base.

“Hey where are all the rino supporters to defend this A-hole on amnesty?”

They avoid threads like this as if it was a conservative principle.

Consider pulling the lever for an alternate party candidate instead of doing a write in. At least this way your vote will go towards the growing protest vote against the current marginally diversified one party socialist candidates and count for more than the write in which isn't even counted nor scored in the final tally. Make your vote count for something.

I agree with you about making your vote count by making a large enough number to register the protest.

OTOH it might be an easier sell if our slogan was: Tell McCain EFF YOU!!! Vote 3rd Party.

He's told us that enough times already.

I wonder if it has ever happened that delegates at convention voted against the nominee and drafted another candidate to take his place. Sure would love to see it happen to McCain! The more I hear him the more sick I feel about voting in November!

He never ‘left’ his amnesty roots. Those that think that once he’s elected, we can somehow ‘change’ him are delusional.

&&&
Exactly. I do not trust him on immigration.

I am going to read through all of the posts here to see if we have the usual crew telling us we have to vote for McCain because Obummer and Hitlery are worse.

I feel the same way. It’s like deciding between the bad, the worse, and the worst.

No one supported him. This is a first.

Thanks for that video. It tells the whole story of McCain’s attitude towards the people. That scene reminded me of some Stalinist Soviet street rally.

Exactly - if he didn’t know you could say he was ignorant. But it’s worse because he DOES know and doesn’t give a damn about what Americans want. He’s going to try to force his own agenda down our throats.

They’re gathering around him. His chief advisor and supporter Sen. Gramnesty is the one who called all of us “bigots” who wanted secure borders when they were trying to railroad comprehensive amnesty through the Senate.

I think that’s the best strategy at this point - get as many conservatives as possible into state government and Congress.

Very good question and, speaking for myself, I’d fight to the bitter end against an amnesty proposed by a Democrat just as I did under a Republican - Bush. Personally, I think Obama would be a real catastrophe for America. I think he’s so bad he makes McCain look like Abraham Lincoln. (and that takes some doing!) I’m a defeated Tancredo/Hunter supporter and to me all the prospects facing us stink! All best,
