BOSTON (AP) -- Dunkin' Donuts has pulled an online advertisement featuring Rachael Ray after complaints that a fringed black-and-white scarf that the celebrity chef wore in the ad offers symbolic support for Muslim extremism and terrorism.
The coffee and baked goods chain said the ad that began appearing online May 7 was pulled over the past weekend because "the possibility of misperception detracted from its original intention to promote our iced coffee."
In the spot, Ray holds an iced coffee while standing in front of trees with pink blossoms.
Conservative commentator Michelle Malkin complained that the scarf wrapped around her looked like a kaffiyeh, the traditional Arab headdress. ''The kaffiyeh, for the clueless, is the traditional scarf of Arab men that has come to symbolize murderous Palestinian jihad,'' Malkin wrote in her syndicated column.

This is interesting. Most of the Dunkin’ Donuts around here are run by Indian and Pakistanis, many of them Muslim. There may be sensitivities behind this.
Actually Michelle is dead on. Wearing the kaffiyeh is the “new” thing with all the little Berkley kids and such. It is being utilized in the same way that Che’ shirts or North Veitnamese flags were used in the 60’s.
In this case it is a symbol of solidarity with the Palestinians that started with lefty Euro kids and has recently made it’s way into pop culture here via Urban Outfitters clothing stores.
Michele is correct, Just because people like Rachel Ray, Dunkin Donuts, and some Freepers do not know what the lefty’s are up to, doesn’t mean that Michele is paranoid.
Umm, she’s wearing a scarf. It has nothing to do with terrorism.
Holy Cow!!!
There’s a Dunkin Donuts ad on that page.
This is just plain stupid. My mother used to wear scarves back in the 50’s and 60’s as did many women of the time and some still do.......
Michelle definitely needs a vacation. Always pick your battles carefully! We got so real society-changing crap headed our way soon, and it is dumb to waste political capital on things like this.
Does Michelle think that DD is intentionally sympathizing with jihad?? or is Rachel just wearing a scarf that is similar to what the mad bombers wear, and Rachel and DD were clueless to the similarities. This has tinges of PCness to it, and it creeps me out when it comes form our side. I find people who wear Che T-shirts more of a threat...They still are allowed to vote and breed.
That said, off to DD to get my Allah sized cup of Suicide Bomber light & sweet.
This red-blooded American male will take RR over that skinny asian gal anyday. BTW...just how is it you can make the determination Michelle is smarter than RR?

It’s called hypervigilance....big difference
The scarf is a kaffiyeh, obviously. Lots of people wear them as a symbol of solidarity for Palestinians. Lots of other people wear them because they are clueless.
If Rachel Ray wants to wear one, that’s her own business. But if she wants to make a political statement about Israel, Dunkin’ Donuts need not support that.
And if it was just clueless, then Dunkin’ Donuts is certainly taking the right course in avoiding controversy. They are trying to sell coffee, not make political points.
But to say it is “just a scarf” denies the obvious. It is a kaffiyeh. Nothing wrong with that, of course. But that much is obvious.

Yes, Rachael's scarf pattern looks similar, but kaffiyehs don't normally have all that western fringe. It just looks like a scarf to me.
Even if it is kaffiyeh, I don't even know if I agree with Michelle's statement that it has become an automatic symbol for islamic extremism. Maybe in her mind it has.
I agree with Michelle on a number of issues, but she really shoots down her credibility and becomes a laughing stock when she does stuff like this.
Oh, that’s what it is. I thought they called it hyper-ignorance.
It's a damn scarf!!!
In a different vein, in my experience, quite a few women have a visceral, visual hatred for Rachel Ray. Especially when she was chunkier.
