"0" Puerto Ricans on the islands will participate in the general election. Their vote now is "worthless". It's just a High School populaity contest.
Remember, Hillary teamed up with the female mayor to get rid of our base...Result...Millions of dollars to the islands were lost. I'm sure many still remember the fallout.

As the party continues to unify behind Hillary....oh wait, isn’t Obama the presumptive nominee?

Obama seems to be doing much better in Puerto Rico than he was supposed to have been doing.
We'll see how well the vote matches the polls.

Can someone explain to me just why in the hell there is a primary in PR?? Why not Norway, or Venus. They would have the same importance.

50% of the electorate says it will not participate in the primary. UGH!!!! This is what irks the hell out of me.... 50% say they are not voting, yet a majority of Puerto Ricans want the U.S. to act in some sort of way in order to pursue change in the island's status.... well, clearly if they don't vote and have their voices heard, at least in the primary process, then Hillary will not get the majority of the popular vote and thus will have to quit the race eventually -- AND SHE'S THE ONE WHO KNOWS MORE ABOUT PUERTO RICO AND IS WILLING TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT STATUS DURING HER FIRST TERM! (if she can get past McCain).... McCain and Obama will do nothing re: Puerto Rico.

Perhaps 50% are voting McCain so there is no need to vote for the Dem.

Uh, how about because Norway and Venus aren't possessions?
Puerto Rico is stuck in limbo as to its status as a nation/state. Currently it is a Commonwealth of the US. Puerto Ricans are US citizens at birth and enjoy just about all the rights of such, without however, representation in Congress. Actually I think they attend, they just don't get a vote. They do however vote in primaries as citizens.
I'm no expert, and after reading two books on it I'm not sure which I'd go for if you put a gun to my head as far as statehood or independence.

13% of 2 million voters should be a quarter of a million votes. That’d pull her about even with Obama, even not counting Michigan.

Not sure what you mean by that. I was referring to how many votes she’d catch up to Obama by. She’ll sure as hell get more than 500,000 votes if the article is correct.

yet a majority of Puerto Ricans want the U.S. to act in some sort of way in order to pursue change in the island's status.... Problem is that the two types of change aren't necessarily compatible. The people who want PR to be a state are not a majority on their own, nor are the people who want total independence.

The problem lies in that there have been numerous plebiscites and referendums within the past few decades in which there have been five choices or more (statehood, commonwealth, independence, associated free state or none of the above) and in the last big plebiscite of ‘98, the majority voted ‘none of the above’.
So therefore, it is time for ‘the big guns’ [i.e. the U.S. Congress and the President of the United States) to act, get involved and to take charge and help resolve the matter of P.R. status by just holding a plebiscite with the options of just statehood and independence.
It is obvious that Puerto Ricans just acnnot make up their mind, so Washington must be involved in this from start to finish.
