Does Dunkin Donuts really think its customers could mistake Rachael Ray for a terrorist sympathizer? The Canton-based company has abruptly canceled an ad in which the domestic diva wears a scarf that looks like a keffiyeh, a traditional headdress worn by Arab men. more stories like this
Some observers, including ultra-conservative Fox News commentator Michelle Malkin, were so incensed by the ad that there was even talk of a Dunkin Donuts boycott.
The keffiyeh, for the clueless, is the traditional scarf of Arab men that has come to symbolize murderous Palestinian jihad, Malkin yowls in her syndicated column.
Popularized by Yasser Arafat and a regular adornment of Muslim terrorists appearing in beheading and hostage-taking videos, the apparel has been mainstreamed by both ignorant and not-so-ignorant fashion designers, celebrities, and left-wing icons.
The company at first pooh-poohed the complaints, claiming the black-and-white wrap was not a keffiyeh. But the right-wing drumbeat on the blogosphere continued and by yesterday, Dunkin Donuts decided itd be easier just to yank the ad.

That is about what I was thinking. **Why is that woman wearing an old bath mat around her neck?**
Never heard of a Rachael Ray before.
Gives new meaning to the term “comfort food”.
I know that, my point is Hollywood went overboard after 9-11 in showing us Muslums on TV, in movies etc.
But no movies about the bravery of our troops, only left-hit jobs which fail at the box office..
Who is that guy?
Oh snap, your implied joke would be priceless if true. Her father is Jewish after all.
If this ends up being a Tallit instead of a keffiyeh, after I get up off the floor laughing at the irony, I'm running to DD and buying everyone in my office coffee and donuts to make up for the boycotters.
She’s ok looking, but I don’t care for her, her voice and attitude are just annoying to me.
I’m not sure that Rachael Ray was trying to make a statement by wearing that scarf. At least, I hope she wasn’t trying to.
The scarf, if nothing else, looks hideous on her. It doesn’t look like a paean (of sorts) to Middle Eastern terrorism.
Now if she were wearing a hijab while doing the commercial, then I’d say “Yeah, she’s trying to make statement”.
She reminds me a little of Kelly of Regis and Kelly fame. She said, and I’m relating this wrong, but when they asked her why she’d be good at the job she said “because I got a hot bod, a pretty face, and a big mouth. What more could I need?”
Liberals did not realize how much they loved Islam until 9/11.
Proof that airbrushing can fix anything.
I’m not convinced she was trying to make a statement either. I do think she or a staff person was trying to desensitize the public to the cloth.
I could be wrong, but if you’ll take note of the full press to desensitize the public on other issues, it does become harder to think some things are just innocent.
Still, when all is said and done, you could be as right as my take on it is.
I appreciate the mention.
LMAO that pic is hilarious.
Geez, lighten up, will ya, folks? The lady was covering up her turkey neck. Guess she didn't want you to see that she was not only a spokesman for Dunkin' Donuts, she's one of their best customers!
LOL, and after that post you think I need to lighten up. ;-) No problem...
He is somebody named Chris, proudly showing the world the prayer shawl his kids sent him. Found it on a blog, via Google.
His kids shop at Urban Outfitters?
Not a Tallit, they’re not worn or marketed as fashion. A boycott would be silly, DD acted, and I agree that Rachel Ray probably was clueless as to the nature of the scarf, as was McCain’s daughter when she wore one upthread. But I agree with Ezekiel, the ad agency certainly knew, or should have. These things are marketed to mainstream the message, and as I noted earlier were used as anti-war statements, UO sold it as an anti-war scarf, to reinforce the “natural” alliance between the anti-war crowd and terrorists. The alliance not based on a desire for peace, but a revulsion for America and Israel.
Oh, puh-leeze. This nonsense reminds me of the idiots who see pictures of the Virgin Mary in pancake scorches.
The scarf Ray is wearing is clearly some type of floral or starburst pattern. Every pali support scarf shown on this thread, including the one worn by Meghan McCain, is clearly a type of plaid or check pattern. Why do you keep insisting that Rachael Ray is wearing a pali support scarf?
