Florida Children's Museum in Naples Hires Former Planned Parenthood Staffer

Naples, FL (LifeNews.com) -- A Naples, Florida-based children's museum is raising eyebrows for hiring a former Planned Parenthood fundraiser to become its development director. Earlier this month, the Children’s Museum of Naples named Myra Williams to the new fundraising position.

Williams has 11 years of fundraising experience she can bring to the museum for planning, developing and maintaining a comprehensive fundraising program.

However, they come at a price.

Williams spent the past seven years as the director of development for Planned Parenthood of Collier County Inc, where she ostensibly raised money for the destruction of unborn children the museum could have served.

The irony of the hire was not lost on Jill Stanek, a leading pro-life spokeswoman who called the move "a major career 180 if I ever saw one."

"At first I thought this must be a natural history museum, preserving for posterity the memory of these small endangered created," Stanek quipped after hearing the news. "In some countries, like Russia, they're all but extinct. But no."

Though the new museum won't open until Spring 2009, Stanek says "it has hired the equivalent of a Nazi prison guard to raise funds for the Holocaust museum."

Stanek says there is a further irony: the interior of the new museum has a Noah theme -- "a reminder that only a few survive?"

"The board has to be stocked with pro-aborts," Stanek concludes in a commentary on her blog. "Otherwise there is just no way they would have hired Williams. But hey, they've picked a fundraiser who has learned from the best."

Williams will assist the Children’s Museum of Naples board of directors with its capital campaign as well as grant writing and direct special fundraising projects.

Neither museum director Joe Cox nor board president Julie Koster responded to requests from LifeNews.com for comment.

Excellent analogy!

Giant stretch of logic.

Sounds like someone in the Pro-Life community wanted this job and now is in a twit.

The person who brought this up is Jill Stanek who is a national pro-life leader. She is a nurse, not a museum director, and, unless she has moved, she lives in Illinois.

Just a little bit silly. The last time I heard such an argument someone was telling me that he refused to watch “Saving Private Ryan” because he saw a picture of Tom Hanks at a Democratic Fundraiser.

If Hanks injects lefty politics into his flicks, I’ll agree and join the boycott but for my money “Private Ryan” is a great movie.

If some former Planned Parenthood fundraiser puts a lot of left wing, pro-abortion slant into a childrens museum project that is one thing, but if the director is effectively raising funds and is putting together a good museum, then I don’t see what she used to do is an issue.

IMO, calling people Nazi’s is a poor way to get them to pay attention to your arguments.

IMO, calling people Nazi’s is a poor way to get them to pay attention to your arguments.

First of all, NOBODY called ANYBODY a Nazi.

Secondly, what is wrong with calling somebody who is a former official of an organization that has systematically slaughtered tens of millions of innocent children a Nazi?

What is "silly"? Your original statement was based on an incorrect inference that a pro-lifer wanted the job. I responded that this was certainly NOT TRUE.

Now, your position is that it simply shouldn't matter. I agree with you that "Saving Private Ryan" is an incredible movie ("Shawshank Redemption" is another favorite of mine and Tim Robbins is a far bigger leftist than Hanks). However, your premise is inaccurate. When an actor plays a role, they are acting a part, if I don't object to the premise of the movie, I probably won't object to their role and an actor's political activism is usually just another publicity stunt.

This case is different, this woman ACTIVELY raised money for an organization that has KILLED over 20 MILLION CHILDREN, having her at a children's museum is more than ironic, it's devoid of any sense of right and wrong.

Is it not obvious that this woman does not care who she raises money for, it is just a job, one that she is good at and she will do it for anyone if the price is right.

So, you are saying that she has NO PRINCIPLES?

Because saying that she is a good fundraiser and doesn't care who or what she is fundraising for is a lot like saying that a drug dealer who doesn't use drugs is just in the business because he enjoys selling.

You're both wrong. If you take away the first 30 minutes of Private Ryan (which I will yield is incredible, ground breaking cinema), the rest of the movie is a real stinker. Crummy plot, bad acting.

I've written off Hanks, not because of liberal politics, but because his movies are a snooze... Forrest Gump, Castaway...zzzzzzz

I would have to agree, Private Ryan really goes down hill after the opening segment; however, that segment is one of the two or three most incredible segment in any movie ever.
