HOUSTON -- Federal officials are working to find out just what happened in the sky over Houston this morning. Continental Flight 1544 was 11 miles east of Bush Intercontinental Airport after takeoff this morning, when the pilot called the tower to report an object near the plane.

The plane was at about 5,000 feet at the time of the report and the flight continued on to Cleveland. Sources told 11 News that the flight was met by Continental officials and FAA investigators to interview the passengers and crew.

What is the max altitude of a shoulder fired missile?

It was swamp gas.
Same thing it usually is, now move along.
Nothing to see here, move along, just a little swamp gas.

About 5 years ago, I was piloting my plane from Savannah to ATL at about 8K’ when a meteor passed less than 1/2 natical mile (best guess) directly in front of my aircraft toward the ground. The bright light diminshed before it got to the ground so I doubt it hit but it sure made me take notice and sit up.

I don’t know the actual size of the meteor but I understand that most that make it to that altitude are smaller than a penny but travelling at several thousand MPH.

The fireball surrounding it appeared to be beachball size and looked like a sky flare.

You see some pretty cool things when flying.....

Could be a SAM but why go after a 737 at IAH when they have much bigger birds taking off from there on a regular basis?

Nothing to see here folks. Must have been a weather balloon or a 'temperature inversion' or most likely swamp gas.

I bet it was a recon drone or an ultralight after that it could be possibly an RC model plane though 5k agl is a bit far.

The plane was 11 miles from IAH at 5000 feet. It could have been a target of opportunity for some smelly towelheads lying in wait. A way for the pedophile prophet’s followers to get a Memorial Day headline for their perverted death cult.

11 miles east of Bush would not be very far from the Cash incident. Without reading article does it state a time this happened? That would also be just about over my house.

I thought about the cash incident as well. 11 miles? Huffman? Atascocita?

I have a book on them as my son was testing them in Alabama many years back. I have photos of the tests and a book but the book with specs is in storage.

Just 2 weeks ago a friend of mine was flying a long final in a rented 172 when a turkey buzzard struck his windshield (and him) and broke the rear window for good measure.

I was proud of him, he's just under 90 hours and going for his private license, kept the plane under control (though it was buffeting badly), executed a go-around and brought it in neatly to be met by cop cars, ambulance and a fire engine.

They put a butterfly bandage over the cut on his forehead, and that and a very dead buzzard was all he got out of it (and some cool pics of him in front of the shattered and bloody windshield holding the buzzard by the wingtips).

He was supposed to take his private checkride the following Friday, I told him go ahead and take it, NOTHING that bad is going to happen to you on a checkride!

Quote:
Flight 1544, which is a Boeing 737, took off from Terminal C at Bush IAH at 10:17 a.m. Monday and arrived at Hopkins International Airport in Cleveland at 2:13 p.m. – nine minutes later than scheduled.

Question: What is the Cash incident?

HPD has been testing drones for traffic enforcement... which I think is the dumbest thing they’ve done yet. If one of those suckers brought a plane down or crashed into traffic, Houston would be sued into poverty.
