Rising gas prices: Energy solutions are needed, not excuses (Pelosi, where's my lower gas cost?)
The Oklahoman ^ | 5/25/2008 | Sen. Jim Inhofe

Posted on 05/25/2008 7:54:11 AM PDT by tobyhill

As Oklahomans travel this Memorial Day weekend, one thing is certain — they will feel the pressure of skyrocketing gas prices. Prices at the pump have never been higher nationwide, and most Americans will pay nearly $4 for a gallon of gasoline this weekend. Four dollars. At a time when American families are already feeling the strain of rising food and consumer prices, $4 a gallon is certainly hard to swallow.

As many Washington politicians return home to face understandably disgruntled constituents this weekend, no doubt there will be plenty of finger pointing. But Oklahomans and Americans want and deserve solutions, not excuses.

Recently, I joined with several Republican colleagues to introduce legislation aimed at addressing these shortcomings, seeking to decrease the price of energy by exploring and developing offshore and Alaskan resources. This bill also includes legislation I authored that would improve the permitting process for construction and expansion of domestic refining capacity. It also invests in research for environmentally friendly energy sources that Oklahoma leads the nation in developing, like cellulosic biofuels. This would help put an end to outsourcing of American jobs, as well as provide much-needed economic relief to Americans suffering from today's energy prices.

The way to lower prices, effectively permanently (3 generataions at least), is to develop the CO and UT shales (this technology works today, not 10-20 years down the road) and to augment the supply with synthetic benzene and similar products.

This will sooner or later require a countervailing tariff on imported crude. Why? Because the price of crude, over 5-10 years, is apt to fall below break-even for production of kerogens from shale, which level is $38-42/bbl now, and will likely fall as improvements to production processes are discovered.

One other nice thing about shale kerogens and synthetic aromatics: they require either very little refining or none at all.

==> “Educated and Liberal are contradictory states.” <==

True, but liberalism and attending an elite educational establishment and receiving a worthless degree (the liberal indoctrination masquerading there as an education) are perfectly compatible.

Blame congress? Nope, the responsibility is ours.

Sure.

And when the local high school JV baseball team gets stomped by the New York Yankees in an exhibition game, they didn't practice hard enough.

Congress has had decades to perfect their shuck-and-jive.

Why do you think we still have the AMT looming over us after both parties had ample time to eliminate it?

I have it on good account from a high IQ college educated liberal that it is Bush/Cheney that are the sole cause of high gas prices.

But what happened to the war for oil????

If any of you own a gas station, do us all a favor and post this image prominently where your patrons can/will see it:

"It impossible to be educated and Liberal"

Actually, I think it really depends on what you mean by 'educated.' What our public schools and universities are doing is 'educating' their students in Liberal nonsense.
