Rising gas prices: Energy solutions are needed, not excuses (Pelosi, where's my lower gas cost?)
The Oklahoman ^ | 5/25/2008 | Sen. Jim Inhofe

Posted on 05/25/2008 7:54:11 AM PDT by tobyhill

As Oklahomans travel this Memorial Day weekend, one thing is certain — they will feel the pressure of skyrocketing gas prices. Prices at the pump have never been higher nationwide, and most Americans will pay nearly $4 for a gallon of gasoline this weekend. Four dollars. At a time when American families are already feeling the strain of rising food and consumer prices, $4 a gallon is certainly hard to swallow.

As many Washington politicians return home to face understandably disgruntled constituents this weekend, no doubt there will be plenty of finger pointing. But Oklahomans and Americans want and deserve solutions, not excuses.

Recently, I joined with several Republican colleagues to introduce legislation aimed at addressing these shortcomings, seeking to decrease the price of energy by exploring and developing offshore and Alaskan resources. This bill also includes legislation I authored that would improve the permitting process for construction and expansion of domestic refining capacity. It also invests in research for environmentally friendly energy sources that Oklahoma leads the nation in developing, like cellulosic biofuels. This would help put an end to outsourcing of American jobs, as well as provide much-needed economic relief to Americans suffering from today's energy prices.

The people need to “DEMAND” lower prices, not just ask for them. Drill off the coast, build more refinerys, build Nuke plants. The people in this state need to knock our politicians off their pedastals once and for all. It’s illegal price control by them not doing this.

I have it on good account from a high IQ college educated liberal that it is Bush/Cheney that are the sole cause of high gas prices.

The kind of legislation that Inhoof is proposing will eventually carry the day, but unfortunately, gas prices will have to sky rocket to get the American Public mad enough to make it happen.

It’s always going to be Bush’s fault even after he leaves office on everything.

Let’s start a futures market based on the price of gasolene on the day that congress votes to open ANWR and authorize offshore drilling. What will it take? 4.50,,5.00..6.00..
How long will the people suffer before they turn on the baffoons in Congress?

Lowering gas prices is pretty simple:
We need a long term and short term solution:

Short term- strengthen the dollar, that means cutting spending, and no more interest cuts by the Fed.
Long term- open up the entire country to exploring, obtaining, and using our natural resources, nothing should be left off the table.

The key is to not sit around and discuss it. Get them off their A$$’s and get it done. Start building and drilling now.

It’s barely halfway to where it’s going and no matter which one of the Three Stooges get elected they are only going to make it worse because they won’t admit when they’re wrong and won’t allow drilling like we should.

It is just proof that there is nothing to liberalism, its just another superstition. This person telling me this was literally shaking when I asked her how exactly Bush/Cheney were accomplishing their dark work her physical anxiety was so severe. She had no answer beyond what a college professor might tell his cult, beyond that is taboo.

If you like $4/gal, Thank Congress.
Heres another sensible energy bill that has no chance of passing.

I knew that. They can also change water into wine. I bet they could also change water into gasoline.

The long term isn't as long as people think. ANWR sites would be less than 100 miles from pipelines and if congress passes and the President signs into law allowing drilling then there should also be a mandate for any company that wins the bid to drill. They must start within a year and complete in 5 years or there's penalties. I don't think companies would we don't need them stalling and running down the supplies.

When they abused the work of Charles Darwin to discredit the great sky god they inserted themselves as the “great white liberal god.” Those chickens as they say are coming home and full of poop.

Thank Congress?

How about thank ourselves, many of these critters were put in office by...who? US.

We only have ourselves to blame. We were the ones that turned our back on our country and let the activists etc. take over and eventually run things. We were the ones that sad the ‘fringe’ didn't have the voice to get things done.

Well, guess what...here we are a generation later wondering the the h*ll happened.

What happened is we were too smug in our beliefs that fringe liberal fools could do us harm...that is what happened.

I have seen it here time after time...Oh no, conservative don't play politics that way...well it is time for a strategy change ‘cause what we've been doing has failed the country.

Blame congress? Nope, the responsibility is ours.

We’ll do what we did the last 35 years, bleat about high gas prices and then elect idiots in congress that will forbid drilling anywhere, increase environmental regulations through the entire oil supply chain that doubles the price of gas, and then level a windfall profits tax on oil companies while telling us it’s saving the planet.

$10/gallon gas, here we come!

I say we have a contest. Put up, say 1 million dollars to the winner who can invent or discover a VIABLE energy source.

There are some bright people out there, we just need to go to work.

Synthetic benzene, uses nanotechnology to convert sewage sludge into fuel through a modified fuel cell application.

All of American cars will run on crapwater, We can build massive hog farms to pump the wasted into fuel cell stations to power our cities, and bacon will be cheaper too.

You nailed it, we are to blame. This election shouldn’t be about an R, D or I, it should be about straight answers. If the candidate says they are against drilling then they should not get the vote. Conservatives started making the mistake by always voting for the RINO that “wasn’t as bad as the other guy” and that has to stop. If the Rat wins because we didn’t vote for the half-as-bad RINO then so be it because by the time the Rat gets done destroying what’s left of this country people will be long ready to vote in the candidate that represents the majorities will.

We need two parts to work to force us into a sane energy policy.

1. An electorate that understands the basics of why gas prices are high. (they don’t)

2. An electorate that will throw the bozos out that don’t advocate a sane energy strategy. (they won’t)
