Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney said presidential candidate John McCain has his own agenda and won't continue President Bush's policies.
"John McCain is his own man," said Romney, a former McCain rival for the Republican nomination who has been mentioned as a potential running mate.
"On economic matters, John McCain is in a very different place" than Bush, Romney said in an interview on Bloomberg Television's Political Capital with Al Hunt. "John McCain has been a frequent and vocal critic of George Bush. If you look at the conduct of the war in Iraq, John McCain was probably as outspoken a critic of the Bush administration as anyone."
Romney, 60, called McCain's health care plan "bold" and "a real reorientation" of the nation's health-care system.
"He presents some real strengths as an independent, maverick voice," Romney said.

But Barrack Hussein Obama would be the second term for Carter.
This is the ultimate IQ test for McCain — choose Romney as your VP and you’ll be a genius!!!!
Brazen, indeed. Romney bought a new home in La Jolla, CA, yesterday, conveniently fleeing his Belmont sanctuary mansion
to avoid the impending Massachusetts bankruptcy which RINO-Romney created
from Romney's-imposed-without-a-vote- free-health-care-for-illegal aliens
and his coverup of the BigDIG fiasco.
Unless McCain changes his ways,I’d prefer a 3rd Bush term.
But either are better than Obamunism.
Romney, now on the Koolaid express. And in his assessment of McNutcase, said absolutely nothing of substance. Except that the underlying tone that McNuts was no George W. Bush.
But mostly, I sensed a bit of restraint as Romney described his McRINO Maverick running mate’s Socialist agenda. It was absolutely clear Romney sees this, but does not have the courage to stand up and tell McNutcase he’s completely wrong or insane.
Romney is nothing more than another gutless, pandering Moderate and will say or do anything to stay in the political ring. Simply pathetic.
Barry Hussein would make carter look like an extreme conservative. BO stinks and is pure evil in comparison.
... more like a Lieberman first term
This election reminds me of a swimmer caught in the current and about to go over Niagra Falls. At the middle of the river is an island. You either have a choice of going over the East side of the falls, (Less violent) or the West side of the falls. (Extremely violent) And both are terribly fatal.
Oh well, at least there is a choice, even if they both wind up the same in the end.
In my case, I chose not to go swimming. I don’t like either option.
I just can’t believe McCain is “it”.
Correct! It wouldn’t be a Bush 3rd term...it would be the beginning of a Democrat Dynasty that will last decades.
Me either. I’m going to walk down.
He'll be much worse.
Third-Term Bush is infinitely better than Second-Term Lenin.
Especially if McNutjob gets in.
It will be such a Democrat majority in the House and Senate, that even attempting a veto will be useless. But don’t worry about that. Any Democrat idea is good enough for McCain.
No matter how hard McCrazy tries to keep us in the war, the super majority Democrats will simply defund it, like they did to Nixon in Vietnam. And any concerns about SCOTUS? There again, they had better be Liberal or not one will be confirmed.
But in McCain’s case, don’t worry about that. He cast the deciding vote to NOT drill ANWR and also picked Ginsberg and Souter for commie judges. McCain....the watermelon RINO.
I disagree with debating on Democrat talking points as if they are the established premise and WE have to refute them.
And that’s all this is - a juvenile, lying talking point. They will just prattle on like children going “nyah, nyah, nyah, nyah, nyah...McCain/Bush, McCain/Bush, McCain/Bush”.
As for McCain, he might make a small imprint on a couple of things that would improve upon President Bush’s years. But because of his inflexible ideology on other matters, such as “torture”, closing Guantanamo and Global Warming (to name only a few), he will make a very large imprint for the worse.
Very tepid remarks from Romney, if quoted correctly.
Not a Bush 3rd Term?
..continues the War in Iraq
..supports moderate SC justices [Miers was no conservative]
..advocates amnesty for illegals
..tolerates open borders by impeding attempts to close them
..mandates ‘green’ [Bush hasn’t fully jumped on the ‘green’ bandwagon, but he has shown some support]
..one of the few distinctions is that McCain voted against the Bush tax cuts, oh, but now McCain thinks they sould be extended.
It sounds like allot of more-of-the-same.
McCain is going to have a hard sell, if he tries to say that isn’t true.
McLame would be more like 3rd term Clintoon.
Mitt Romney wants to be McCain’s final VP choice so bad that Mitt is now doing much of McCain’s work for him. That’s really all that this is.
