Daily oil production on the coastal plain of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, an area which Congress originally designated for oil exploration when it set up the refuge, is estimated by the Energy Information Administration (Dept. of Energy) to be able to produce approximately 1, 000,000 barrels of crude oil per day.
With current imports of foreign oil running over 12,000,000 barrels per day (EIA chart), production of one million barrels of U.S. oil would be an important first step to energy independence.
But this is how Senator Charles Schumer dismissed the benefits of ANWR in an April 28 press conference:
SCHUMER: What does the president do? He takes out the old saw of ANWR. ANWR wouldn't produce a drop of oil in ten years, and it's estimated that if they drilled in ANWR, in 20 years it would reduce the price one penny. We've been pushing for a long time for energy efficiency. We believe in a price-gouging bill so that the big oil companies can't collude. We believe that there's too much speculation in the markets, and we believe that ought to be reined in.So why did he say this two weeks earlier on the Senate floor:

If you like $4/gal, Thank Congress.

“So why did he say this two weeks earlier on the Senate floor?”
It couldn’t be because the MSM won’t hold these clowns to account for their contradictory statements, could it?
Just asking!
Foreign ANYTHING is better than American ANYTHING, to their minds...
Even before the price spike this issue made me the angriest. The democrat position is lies, nonsense, sabotage of our economy. Why pour these billions into Saudi Arabia and not USA? Why say it will take ten years? Are we all supposed to be dead in ten years? This started 20 years ago and they are still blocking it. For what possible good reason other than treason?
We always hear there is not enough oil to make a difference.
How is it that Canada and Mexico can have enough oil to export and we are smack dab between both and yet we don’t have enough to make a dent?
I’ve followed this issue more than a decade, there has never been a good reason put forward against drilling. I mean never put forward. Go see if you can find a specific environmental argument against this. It does not exist. No evidence of harm to anything. Hard to believe but they are doing this to us.
Any that would Vote democrat should be SLAPPED.. unless they are rich enough to care less about the price of fuel.. Slapped HARD..
I dunno. I remember the days when we used to read this kind of stuff here at FR first, THEN we would hear it as old news on Rush...Now it seems the opposite is the norm.
They are also deeply in debt to the eco-nazis.
They also just hate capitalists unless they are their capitalists such as the hollyweirds. What is truly disgusting is durbin, schumer and these other a$$es grilling the oil company execs about their salaries and profits and blaming the current problems on them when it is the fault of congress. What we have is a wealthy, pompous little prince who is wealthy because of his position and influence berating a businessman who earns his compensation by making a profit for his company.
The fact that they don't have even a basic grasp of economics is truly frightening.
“I DRINK YOUR MILKSHAKE!”
According to the latest lefty rant I heard on Fox it's because by not drilling for new oil we can become energy independent...?
So why did he say this two weeks earlier on the Senate floor?
Schumer the tumor never lets contradictions interfere with attacking W. I think the Dems know they’re losing the argument. They can read polls.
“According to the latest lefty rant I heard on Fox it’s because by not drilling for new oil we can become energy independent...? “
Yes. Some miracle new alternative fuel long suppressed by evil oil will spring up. Poof! Energy independence.!
Unfortunately for the left, people will vote for drilling now.
