STOCKTON, Calif. (AP) Republican John McCain on Thursday rejected endorsements from two influential but controversial televangelists, saying there is no place for their incendiary criticisms of other faiths.
McCain rejected the months-old endorsement of Texas preacher John Hagee after an audio recording surfaced in which the preacher said God sent Adolf Hitler to help Jews reach the promised land. McCain called the comment "crazy and unacceptable."
He later repudiated the support of Rod Parsley, an Ohio preacher who has sharply criticized Islam and called the religion inherently violent.
McCain issued a statement Thursday afternoon announcing his decision about Hagee.
"Obviously, I find these remarks and others deeply offensive and indefensible, and I repudiate them. I did not know of them before Reverend Hagee's endorsement, and I feel I must reject his endorsement as well," he said.

Wow. I didn’t know the VietCong cut his balls off.
I fully agree with your overview.
Good for McCain.
Although I am not sure I would outright “reject” someone’s endorsement.
Perhaps something like this is more appropriate:
“Although I disagree with _____________________’s views on most things, I appreciate the endorsement.”
I would not get too bent out of shape about McCain not suckin’ up to either of these showboaters.
I’m not trying to hijack a thread...but it seems better to ask this way than to make a new one. Can anyone tell me or point me the way to the facts of McCain sticking it to the POWs? It’s not that I don’t believe it...I do vaguely remember something back when....but I’d like to have some facts to back myself up when I bring up the subject. The only thing I’ve found from Ask.com so far is that he denied the Soviets interrogated them when they had admitted that they did. Thanks in advance.
Oh, my! Gee! And we CANNOT have any of THAT now, can we!?
How in the hell are we going to win this War on Terror under McCAIN or Obama for that matter, if either of those two knuckleheads cannot explicitly say WHO the enemy is!!?
I mean, Rod Parsley's World Harvest Church has an attendance that's about half black and half white.
Were the dems afraid they might lose some of the black vote to Mccain?
At least Hagee didn’t say that God damned Amerikkka.
And just what is wrong with the other pastor’s view of Islam? It is absolutely true. Any Imam would be hard pressed to show me where in the world Islam is producing peace, peaceful people, and doing charitable works that don’t include martrydom.
McCain should just say we don’t agree on all things but I respect their right to express their opinions.
He lets the media make him react to non-issues.
He’ll lose this campaign if he doesn’t stop jumping to media toadies’ tunes.
Maybe that’s the plan.
McCain—when you care enough to send the very worst.
About 1/3 of Republicans would like to see McCain thrown out on his butt and he's worried about offending his Democrat base.
Get rid of McCain!
I am not a fan of either Hagee or Parsley, but seeing McCain use them as political pawns was the final straw for me.
This has been a long time coming, but I will not support (or vote for) John McCain.
And this would discourage a McCain vote from.....?
Well, welcome to the crowd. Most of us gave up a long time ago.
Get rid of McCain!
It’s not too late, yaknow.. Hello GoP, Helloooo!!!
Talk about taking a statement out of context! Hagee did NOT come out and say that Hitler was doing God’s will, but that it was God’s will that the Jews return to Israel.
Rod Parsley and John Hagee have both spoken against the Islamic faith. Apparently many in our country have forgotten that that was the faith of those 19 peaceful guys who drove those planes into our WTC, Pentagon and the field in Pennsylvania. That Islamic faith. But I guess no one is allowed to mention that anymore.
People are pretty familiar with the organization Hagee founded, “Citizens United for Israel”. But Rod Parsley has been working on behalf of the people of Sudan for years; he founded the “Center for Moral Clarity” (which teaches Biblically based conservative teachings); he is extremely anti-abortion. Sorry if people find those types of positions offensive.
...Of course the MSM was just itching to get their slimy hands on ANYTHING that could take the pressure off Barack Obama and the (Rev.)Wright problem; of course if they were anything near impartial, all three candidates would have been vetted evenhandedly.
...But then again, we are dealing with one of America's most evil enterprises.
See Tagline for details.
On another thread tonite I posted: There are too many weak, easily offended and easily cowed Christians in this country. Put these pitiful Christians together with the people who care too much about the spotted owl and those who care too little about the infiltration of radical muslims into the US and theres little hope left, in my mind, for United States.
It's quite interesting to me to find that McCain seems to eat this stuff up.
How many gay people does he have on his immediate campaign staff? 10, maybe 100, or 10,000?
He's showing absolutely no common sense in this situation.
Could be.
But Hagee is a major showboater.
I can understand McCain wanting to distance himself.
BTW: Wouldn’t Robert Duvall be a shoe-in to play McCain in a movie?
Just because he rejects their endorsement does not mean he is not being endorsed.
