SAN ANGELO, Texas - A state appellate court has ruled that child welfare officials had no right to seize more than 400 children living at a polygamist sect's ranch.
The Third Court of Appeals in Austin ruled that the grounds for removing the children were "legally and factually insufficient" under Texas law. They did not immediately order the return of the children.
Child welfare officials removed the children on the grounds that the sect pushed underage girls into marriage and sex and trained boys to become future perpetrators.
The appellate court ruled the chaotic hearing held last month did not demonstrate the children were in any immediate danger, the only measure of taking children from their homes without court proceedings.
I didn’t say it was done right, but I am also tired of this damning of people, like the Texas Rangers and DFPS who where given evidence, and had to make a choice to act, and chose a path they thought was best for the children. If they had a time machine, sure, I bet things would be done a lot differently, but they didn’t.
Not at all surprised. Ones wonders what the pitchforks will be used for next.
Whoever has been watching this without religious zealousy and love for all things government saw this coming...
I believe the woman in Colorado who made the false police report has been charged.....
Amazing, isn't it? All that rapin' and coming and going, flying back and forth in private airplanes and driving 800+ miles one way to get to those underage girls and their is not a single related arrest?

I have read some pretty amazing things right here from folks trying to make the tail wag the dog...
“A court read the Texas Rangers affidavit and, based on that evidence, acted”
Yeah, some court, with a little Stalin presiding. The actions and judgment of that judge are where things went far into the wrong direction.
Recall how she told the mothers, upon separation from their children, to get over it because women had to leave their children in the care of others all the time in the modern world?
They were out in force by the time of your post! Defenders of the State, (may someone accuse THEM of abuse)!
When I was a rookie cop about thirty-five years ago, I had an old Lieutenant tell me: If you don’t know what you’re doin’, don’t do nothin’.
Good advice then and very good advice today for Texas authorities.
Until we start to make public officials personally accountable, I fear that we will continue to see abuses that are paid for by you and me...the taxpayers.
Not U.S. government, but Texas state government in this case.
As a publik scewl teecher, I can tell you that there are two reasons that girls get pregnant. First: They are unloved and think that having a baby will give them someone who will love them. Second: They get a gubmint check. The second is usually the most common.
The cult girls had no choice. The girls who did “choose” did so due to brainwashing from an early age.

My husband had an autographed photo of your screen name in his office years ago. I told him he should take it down b/c it might offend someone. He answered, “Anyone who knows who he is doesn’t have the right to be offended.” I laugh every time I think of that.
CPS meanies should pay dearly for this high-handed and cruel treatment of children and their families.
Sadly, a number of people bought that line. I wonder who is going to cash the checks their mouths have been writing now.
Agreed. I just remain thankful that it didn't turn into another Waco.
Many times over the years, I have pointed out this occurrence here. Seems that nobody believes the media when the media is saying something that they disagree with, but when the media's report suits their agenda ... different ballgame.
Truth be told, the media has an agenda overall, but you really have to apply common sense and judge the sources when you are evaluating the validity of a news report.
Neither will some freepers.
Not only did they burn the place down, then they bull dozed it to hide the evidence proving they lied their asses off. Then they got commendations, promotions and raises.
But...due process is crucial especially when we find things morally repugnant. I'm old enough to remember when everyone was certain, beyond any shadow of a doubt, that all those children were viciously assaulted in the day care centers.
Except they weren't. But the mob had already made it's choice. And thousands of lives were destroyed.
When I hear about CPS, or any of the caring and nurturing bureaucracies, I remember the caution, “when you're a hammer everything else looks like a nail.”
