Crist would be barely acceptable. Jindal could be good. Romney would be great...and I hope McCain doesn’t forget about the following people either:
AK Governor Sarah Palin
SC Governor Mark Sanford (excellent choice)
Fred Thompson
Former MD Lt. Gov Michael Steele
I have to be honest. I’m leaning towards Romney.
It’s certainly looking like governors dominate the “short list”. I do have to say, though, that I’m skeptical that this meeting is necessarily what the reporter characterizes it as.
I rather doubt Jindal is being seriously considered. Crist and Romney are more likely candidates, but I wouldn’t necessarily put either near the top of the list. Crist doesn’t bring as much to the ticket as many think, and Romney’s personal problems with McCain probably stand in the way of that match. Pawlenty probably is near the top, but he isn’t even going to the meeting.
As for your four, the only one who I think is getting any consideration is Palin. Thompson and Steele aren’t going to happen, and from what I’ve heard, Sanford is no longer being considered. Palin’s problem, of course, is that she’s from Alaska.
As for Huckabee, as much as I’d like to read something into his exclusion from this meeting, I wouldn’t write him off yet. There are some sources close to McCain saying that he’s actually at the top of the list. I certainly hope not, though, since that would be a disaster.
Crist is too inexperienced and too like a moderate Eastern guv. Jindal is great but really inexperienced and La. is Pub already. Palin is well 3 electoral votes and unknown. Romney would help in the MW but there it ends. A risky but valiant choice would be JC Watts. You can forget about Steele. He comes in a few years as does Jindal . An outside choice will be Rudy. Wait and see.
Wonder if McCain knows about the GAY issues floating around Florida?
Crist, the GOP George Hamilton of Florida, is NOT going to enhance the ticket.
He'd lose Florida voters who voted for Crist by default.
Sarah Palin, the governor of Alaska, is currently pregnant. The child has Downs Syndrome.
I’d like to see Sanford.
Him and Haley Barbour are about the only acceptable GOP governors out there for consideration in 2012.
I agree with your list. Jindal should stay in Lousiana and run in 20112 or 2016 if we lose this one. Romney is the only one listed in the story that I’d like to see.
Would Palin want to leave? She just got elected.
Michael Steele would be perfect.
You want someone who could be the the presidential candidate after 2 terms of McCain, and then serve two terms himself.
Thompson would be 82 by the end of his second term.
Cheney has been the exception to this general rule, but I'm really not sure how much Cheney being Vice President, rather than just an adviser, has really been a benefit.
How about SIMON? or RUSH?
Fred Thompson has said he’s not interested.
You left out General David Petraeus, whom Obama’s friends at MoveOn.org smeared last year.
The good news is, it seems as though Reverand Ike Huckabee and Con-dull-leeza are of the table.
Sarah just had a downs bay I would hope her dedication is to her kids not washington
