Almost every day another species of plant or animal is "discovered" to be threatened by global warming. I read a new report concerning moose in Scandinavia that are unexpectedly "threatened" despite what researchers admit is a growing population. Penguins are in danger from loss of Antarctic ice even though the Antarctic ice-cap is known to be growing with colder temperatures recorded in the southern hemisphere in recent years according to NASA. Fortunately for these species -- which hitherto managed to survive and thrive on their own for hundreds of thousands or millions of years -- intrepid 21st Century researchers have arrived on the scene with Al Gore just in time to "rescue" them from climate change. How is it possible that such disparate species all around the globe are in such dire straights all at once?
Perhaps it has less to do with actual species' population trends and other such noisome facts and more to do with a novel nexus between the news-media and "grantsmanship" among academic researchers who have hit upon a winning formula: if one ties one's research project somehow -- even via the most tenuous and flimsy grounds -- to global warming, one's grant proposal will have much greater chance to be selected for funding, one's chances of appearing on 60 Minutes or NPR are greatly increased, and as a consequence of this positive PR for one's project, university and funding agency, one's grant is more likely to be renewed.

Yeah - of course. I’m stunned that libs never want to believe “big oil men” cause they’re “only motivated by profit”.
Of course, they’ll take the word of government agents and politicians (like Al Gore) who ALWAYS suggest raises after making these claims.
The increasing pop-culturization of science is doing a lot of harm.
Precisely. "The money" is what the "global warming" hoax is all about. There's a reason that the big-time Washimgton, D.C. law firms are hiring literally scores of "global warming" litigators.
Boilerplate:
“This study of [fill in the species] with special reference to Global Climate Change will...”
As a side note to AGW, given that the oceans cover 66-70% of the earth's surface, it's no surprise that ocean temperatures are regarded as a major indicator of global warming activity. So the slight decrease in ocean temperatures indicated by the Argo System oceanic temperature probes over the last several years reflects on the politically correct foundation of AGW alarmism, in my opinion.

I encountered this 20 years ago, facing pressure for daring to question the AGW orthodoxy. Funding would have been a breeze if I’d been willing to sell out on good scientific principles.
This is what I have been trying to explain to my kids. I’m glad to see this posted so I can show it to them later.
Info, if this posts - FR acting kinda goofy.
The biggest source of grant money is the federal government. You can depend that any researcher who finds a need for the creation or expansion of a government agency will get more money

I just discovered that one of my college roommates whom had been a County Attorney quit to become an environmental attorney.
The bastard is going to be making his living suing the government on behalf of his “clients” for environmental “infractions” and we as taxpayers are going to be paying his ridiculous hourly rates.
Publication bias exists in many forms. You can’t get “pro” marijuana research published, it’s difficult to get studies linking religious beliefs to healthoutcomes, anti global warming research is blacklisted, etc. Nothing new here, but good people are following the trial.
bump & a ping
Meanwhile, literally HUNDREDS of physicists are being fired or involuntarily “retired” throughout this country due to Congress needing to come up with billions of dollars to fund “green” projects like ethanol. Physics graduate and undergraduate students are abandoning the field because projects have been discontinued.
This is no joke.
It is going on right now. I know many of these people personally.
