SHARM EL-SHEIK, Egypt U.S. President George W. Bush said Saturday that the Saudis' modest increase in oil production is "something but it doesn't solve our problem" of soaring gas prices.
Taking note of the kingdom's recent decision to raise production by 300,000 barrels a day, the president said the United States must act, too, to ease the gasoline crisis. He mentioned steps such as developing alternate fuels, improving conservation and expanding domestic exploration.
"We've got to do more at home," the president said on a lawn of a resort overlooking the Red Sea. He spoke after a private meeting with Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai.
Bush said he told Saudi King Abdullah during their talks this week that the king should be concerned that high energy prices are hurting some of Saudi Arabia's biggest oil customers, including the United States.
The kingdom decided May 10 on the production increase to help meet U.S. needs after Venezuela and Mexico cut back on oil deliveries. Oil minister Ali al-Naimi made that announcement Friday.
"One of the interesting things about American politics is, those who are screaming the loudest for increased production from Saudi Arabia are the very same people who are fighting the fiercest against domestic exploration, against the development of nuclear power and against expanding refining capacity," Bush told reporters.

as much as gasoline costs,
you’d think the average consumer would
stop watching tv for answers,
and research the reasons.
not.
Finally he's not blaming us for our "oil addicition". Of course, it's too little, too late for the republicans.
The average person is too lazy to do anything but trust what the politicians and TV hacks tell them.
The solution lies in the transition to hydrogen and natural gas, and possibly alcohol and electric. The transition away from petroleum liquids will take 25 years, and is already underway in the fastest growing regions such as China.
Your average consumer would not know where to begin to research the reasons.
Believe it. That's how the Democraps have won elections ever since Roosevelt ran on his "Our boys will nt be sent to fight in foreign wars" lie.
Nothing new, so here’s something new: The new sinkhole in the East Texas oilfield now has an alligator. How did the alligator get in there? Spontaneous generation?
It's a local gator
You know, when I was young I used to defend the average American(or human if you will)by saying that average IQs were adequate and that they could see what all the idiots were doing. This was back in the 50s.
I had a modest IQ(still do)of 141, this is ok but hardly world shaking. I used to think people who had average IQs would get it, but when someone like pelosi can say such outrageous contradictions and not be called on it, I give up and say that people below about a 115 IQ should not be able to vote, and I am only half joking here.
I am sorry, but you are wrong. No, actually I am not sorry, but you are still wrong. Yes, sometime in the future we will have to find alternatives and we should start now to find them but most of the so called alternatives are really not viable. We need, short term, and that may be a period of hundreds of years, to explore and drill for more oil, we need to build nukes, NOW, and to hell with the EPA and eviro rules. We need to build more refineries, NOW, and to hell with the EPA and enviro rules.
Anytime I read a comment from one of you guys(the "lets get off oil" guys)I can't help but think you are liberal plants or have a really, really low IQ.
Want to buy a refinery? 220,000 barrels a day. Stable market.
Where do we get a steady supply of hydrogen, and is it energy-positive when you calculate in the process of creating and transporting it?
As for natural gas, is it as portable and safe as diesel or gasoline?
Hydrogen is mainly from natural gas.
Send this to everyone in your address book:
Liberal DemoRAT Energy Plan:
1. You cant drill for oil anywhere.
2. You cant build a refinery anywhere.
3. You cant build a nuclear power plant anywhere.
4. You cant burn coal for electricity.
5. You cant allow the oil companies to reinvest their profits into exploration.
6. But you can drive up the price of food by subsidizing an ethanol industry that takes land out of food production while using more energy than it creates.
7.You must continue to tax every gallon of gas that we put in our tanks.
8.You must threaten all energy users with additional carbon taxes.
9. And just in case some entrepreneur out there somewhere may have an idea for an alternative energy concept that just might work, you must raise the capital gains tax so that investors have less capital and less incentive to invest in his/her project. count your blessings.
With the coming change in administration, it| will be a wonder if the price of gasoline doesnt get to $10 per gallon.
All this and more thanks to anti-American, anti-Semitic, anti-military Liberal Radical DemoRATS.
Could the rising commodity prices have anything to do with the liquidity games that the Federal reserve have been playing? Nah, that’s nuts. Increasing the supply of money in the economy and making credit easier couldn’t possibly ever have inflationary effects. Never mind the men behind the curtain. When it comes to money, the law of supply and demand doesn’t apply. Only kooks think that.
I am for ditching the ridiculous enviro regs and drilling for as much oil as possible. Oil is the cheapest source of portable energy around for things like you car. I think nukes would be a good way to make electricity.
The average American is willfully ignorant of the way the world works. They do not want to know the truth about money, environmental regulations' and laws' painful, expensive side effects. They want simple, sugar-coated answers that make them feel good. That is why liars such as Pelosi get away with the falsehoods they spew. Most Americans are foolish, stupid sheep and the only silver lining is that they deserve the pain that they feel in high energy prices.
