LEXINGTON, Ky. — Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama, facing a likely defeat in next Tuesday's primary election, won't travel to Kentucky before the voting, but said he hopes to have much more time to win over Kentucky voters before the November general election.
He also blamed Fox News for disseminating "rumors" about him and said that that and e-mails filled with misinformation that have been "systematically" dispersed have hurt him in Kentucky.
"When we're able to campaign in a place like Iowa for several months and I can visit and talk to people individually, I do very well. That's harder to do at this stage in the campaign," Obama said in a brief telephone interview Friday. "And once we get past the primary, we'll be able to focus more on those states where we need to make sure people know my track record."
In contrast, Obama's rival, Sen. Hillary Clinton, will make five stops in Kentucky over the weekend, including appearances at two university campuses.
Obama spoke to more than 8,000 supporters in Louisville Monday night — his first time in the state since August. He said he had hoped to spend more time in Kentucky earlier this week but was called back to Washington, D.C. for votes on Tuesday.
Since then, he’s stumped in Oregon, which will hold its primary by mail on Tuesday, and South Dakota, where Democrats vote June 3, as well as in states that have already held their primary elections, such as Michigan and Missouri.
“We’re having to campaign in a lot of different places,” Obama said. “Obviously we think Kentucky is important. People in Kentucky are concerned about the same things people are concerned about all across the country — declining wages and incomes combined with the rising costs of everything from gas_to_health care.”

That picture is too funny. We lived in a gated golf course community where the average age was probably 85, and that low only because we lived there. Anyway, one of our neighbors who were both over 90, started going to auctions in Canada every Sunday, and they bought one of those lawn statues and put it by their front door.

He imagines that Shrillary was much closer to KY while in Little Rock when in fact he is about 200 miles closer in Chicago. Maybe he doesn’t know that Kentucky is one of the “57 states”..... or was it 58, or 60????

note to self: I suppose that Obama’s spinners will say that he simply meant that Shrillary was closer to the SW tip of Kentucky — but big deal, Chicago is closer to all the population centers of northern/central KY and the large majority of KY voters. Still, it is obvious that he has NO IDEA that KY shares a border with IL and that AR does NOT share any border with KY. He is CLUELESS.
This is Obama’s biggest howler yet, b/c he doesn’t even know that Kentucky and Illinois share a border!! And that most of Kentucky is much closer to Chicago than to Little Rock...... and that if you regard him as the Senator of the STATE of Illinois (which he is) and not merely the Senator from Chicago, then he was closer to ALL of Kentucky than Shrillary was from AR.
Obama is not merely tired, he is seriously geographically challenged, in a scary way, completely ignorant of a state that borders his own state.
This is like a Senator from PA thinking that Arkansas is closer to West Virginia than WV is to PA..... (not an exact analogy, but gives the rough idea).
This man is IGNORANT and CARELESS. You would think that anyone running for POTUS would examine a map of the country. You’d think that a US Senator from Illinois would know what the neighboring states are!!!
I wish this could have come out in the fall after Hillary was out of the picture, but still, this is dynamite. This guy does not know his own country and region, not even moderately well.
