U.S. House defeats $162.5 bln in new war funds Thu May 15, 2008 3:42pm EDT
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. House of Representatives on Thursday defeated legislation that would have funded the war in Iraq for another year, in a surprise move that the Senate could overturn.
By a vote of 149-141, the Democrat-controlled House rejected a measure that would have given the Pentagon $162.5 billion to keep the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan running through next summer, slightly below President George W. Bush's request.
A large group of anti-war House Democrats voted against the funds. That, coupled with 132 Republicans voting "present," meaning neither "yes" nor "no," killed the measure for now.

Then why didn’t the spineless repubs vote “no”?
As I wrote before: See post #43 and #46.
You assume that only Republicans voted for the bill.
I am ashamed to say that I once considered myself to be a member of the Republican Party.
Every one of those spineless jellyfish can go straight to hell for all I care.
I believe there was an Illegal Immigrant amnesty rider attached. There’s an article here somewhere about an agricultural related amnesty plan.
These Republicans may have done us a favor. Hopefully a clean funidng bill will replace this deceitful travesty.
That's in the Senate's version I believe.
Thanks. It was proposed by Feinstein, so I should have surmised that on my own. I appreciate it.
Please read the comments (especially #35, 37, 40, 43, 46).
“Oh sure Einstein that will work...sheesh do you not read?
That, coupled with 132 Republicans voting present, meaning neither yes nor no,”
Well, I don’t recall ever claiming to be Einstein but I was speaking of Republicans generically, not the Republican Party or the Republicans currently in national office, and especially not those who were there and failed to do anything about it. Each Republican is going to have to carry their own conservative campaign without help from the GOP because the GOP has capitulated the high ground to the liberals. They need to trumpet Democratic failure to support the troops and war effort and they need to attack the do-nothings in office right now. It is the only way to win back conservative enthusiasm for Republican candidates.
Not to mention the word “SENATE” in the title... ouch!
:-p
:-p
Heh heh heh... take care bud.
I caught that after I posted.
Thanks for the heads-up though.
Because they are pathetic losers. That is why. Republicans are on their way out, if for no other reason than they are spineless weenies.
It just makes tossing the RNC mailers into the trash that much more fun.

How’d you like to be deployed in Iraq and read about this cr—!
They passed that farm bill folks, GOPukes helped them in a veto proof end. Hang on to your wallet and start a program of tar and feathers for these traitors.
They need to be ejected from Congress ASAP!
