Mankind is the 'Earth's biggest threat'(DEFCON 5 1/2 Barf Alert!)

Global warming is causing significant changes to the Earth's natural systems and it is highly unlikely that any force but man-made climate change can be blamed . Researchers who analysed 30,000 academic studies dating back to 1970 said man was responsible for changes that ranged from the loss of ice sheets to the collapse in numbers of many species of wildlife.

"Humans are influencing climate through increasing greenhouse gas emissions, and the warming world is causing impacts on physical and biological systems," said Cynthia Rosenzweig, at the Nasa Goddard Institute for Space Studies.

The effects on living things include the earlier appearance of leaves on trees and plants; the movement of animals and birds to more northerly latitudes and to higher altitudes in the northern hemisphere; rapid advances in flowering time and earlier egg-laying in Britain; and changes in bird migrations in Europe, North America and Australia.

On a planetary scale the changes include the melting of glaciers on all continents; earlier spring river run-off; and the warming of oceans, lakes and rivers.

The study's conclusions go further than the most recent report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, which concluded last year that man-made climate change was "likely" to have had a discernible effect on the planet.

It says natural climate variations cannot explain the changes to the Earth's natural systems.

In the study, published in the journal Nature, Miss Rosenzweig and researchers from 10 institutions across the world analysed data from published papers on 829 physical systems – such as glaciers and ice sheets – and 28,800 plant and animal systems. They produced a picture of the changes to each continent. The changes were most marked in North America, Asia and Europe but mainly because far more studies had been carried out there.

The authors said there was an urgent need to study environmental systems in South America, Australia and Africa, especially in tropical and subtropical areas.

In North America, the researchers found that 89 species of plants were flowering earlier, such as the American holly and box elder maple; a decline in the population of polar bears; and the rapid melting of Alaskan glaciers.

In Europe, they found evidence of glaciers melting in the Alps; earlier pollen release in the Netherlands; and apple trees producing leaves 35 days earlier in Spain.

In Asia they reported a change in the freeze depth of permafrost in Russia; and the earlier flowering of ginkgo in Japan.

In Antarctica, the population of emperor penguins had declined by 50 per cent. In South America, the melting of the Patagonia ice-fields were contributing to a rise in sea levels.

Prof Barry Brook, of the University of Adelaide, described the evidence that mankind was altering the world as "overwhelming".

He said: "These changes are only a minor portent of what is likely to come."

Without mankind, what is the point of earth even existing in the first place?

God takes a holiday. But wasn’t that why Adam and Eve were created, so God would have something to keep Himself entertained?

Another small step in the rise of anti-Humanism. What is only hinted at today and spoken of at the fringes of society will one day be a mainstream movement. Even Radical Islam is not as much of a threat to humanity; these people do not merely demand that people submit to tyranny - they want them to die.

Precisely my thinking. Naturally, the jackasses that write this trash excuse themselves from making the sacrifices the rest of us are expected to comply with.

"NASA's mission is to pioneer the future in space exploration, scientific discovery and aeronautics research.

To do that, thousands of people have been working around the world -- and off of it -- for almost 50 years, trying to answer some basic questions. What's out there in space? How do we get there? What will we find? What can we learn there, or learn just by trying to get there, that will make life better here on Earth?

WHAT TO HELL IS GOING ON WITH NASA??

Between this moonbat as well as Jim Hansen and others at NASA, I would like to know how all of this environut BS has come to be under their purview and responsibility.

Moreover, NASA is NOT a private agency and why are no Congress-Critters standing up to these chicken-little-green-weenies?

I will not take them seriously until they begin to voluntarily induce permanent carbon-neutral status in themselves, their families, and their pets. This is the EARTH we are talking about here, so I am sure they can accept the small sacrifice that is their insignificant, meaningless lives (in the “grand scheme of things”, compared to millions of plants, animals, rare bacteria, etc).

By all means, if they think humans are such a problem, I invite them to be part of the solution. I even endorse making assisted-suicide legal for life’s “conscientious objectors”. I implore these folks to at least not have children, and not support public education either. Because, after all, it is education which is responsible for science and technology used by evil capitalism to rape the earth. Oh and modern medicine makes us live longer, which uses up more resources.

Of course, most of these people aren’t interested in saving squat. This is about pushing socialism.

This article is unbelievable tosh.

The Mediaeval Warm Period was warmer than today, despite the fact that the heaviest industry back then was Cathedral construction.

Anthropogenic Global Warming is a deadly myth. Just as the agrarian reforms inspired by Lysenko’s socialistic anti-science killed *42 million people* in the 20th Century, the AGW myth is going to inflict another megadeath on us in this century.

It seems that socialists will never stop trying to kill us for the sake of their personal power.

Your two posts on this thread are probably the two best (and most informative) posts on this subject that I’ve had the pleasure to read in Free Republic for a long time.

Excellent work, Eye On The Left, and my hat’s off to you!

100,000-Year Climate Pattern Linked To Sun's Magnetic Cycles:
ScienceDaily (Jun. 7, 2002) HANOVER, N.H.
Thanks to new calculations by a Dartmouth geochemist, scientists are now looking at the earth's climate history in a new light. Mukul Sharma, Assistant Professor of Earth Sciences at Dartmouth, examined existing sets of geophysical data and noticed something remarkable: the sun's magnetic activity is varying in 100,000-year cycles, a much longer time span than previously thought, and this solar activity, in turn, may likely cause the 100,000-year climate cycles on earth. This research helps scientists understand past climate trends and prepare for future ones.

THE ACQUITTAL OF CARBON DIOXIDE
by Jeffrey A. Glassman, PhD

ABSTRACT:

"Carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is the product of oceanic respiration due to the well-known but under-appreciated solubility pump. Carbon dioxide rises out of warm ocean waters where it is added to the atmosphere. There it is mixed with residual and accidental CO2, and circulated, to be absorbed into the sink of the cold ocean waters. Next the thermohaline circulation carries the CO2-rich sea water deep into the ocean. A millennium later it appears at the surface in warm waters, saturated by lower pressure and higher temperature, to be exhausted back into the atmosphere. Throughout the past 420 millennia, comprising four interglacial periods, the Vostok record of atmospheric carbon dioxide concentration is imprinted with, and fully characterized by, the physics of the solubility of CO2 in water, along with the lag in the deep ocean circulation. Notwithstanding that carbon dioxide is a greenhouse gas, atmospheric carbon dioxide has neither caused nor amplified global temperature increases. Increased carbon dioxide has been an effect of global warming, not a cause. Technically, carbon dioxide is a lagging proxy for ocean temperatures. When global temperature, and along with it, ocean temperature rises, the physics of solubility causes atmospheric CO2 to increase. If increases in carbon dioxide, or any other greenhouse gas, could have in turn raised global temperatures, the positive feedback would have been catastrophic. While the conditions for such a catastrophe were present in the Vostok record from natural causes, the runaway event did not occur. Carbon dioxide does not accumulate in the atmosphere."

Ok, fine. All the global warming fanatics can do their part and jump off a bridge, thus decreasing the overall environment damaging human population. I’ll do my part and eat a ton of steaks and hamburgers, thus reducing the number of methane belching cattle out there.
