North Carolina Senate: Hagan (D) 48% Dole (R) 47%
Rasmussen Reports ^ | Sunday, May 11, 2008

Posted on 05/14/2008 12:00:13 PM PDT by MinnesotaLibertarian

Democrat Kay Hagan, a state senator from Greensboro, easily won the Democratic Primary last Tuesday night and starts the general election campaign essentially tied with incumbent Senator Elizabeth Dole.

The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey in North Carolina Hagan attracting 48% of the vote statewide while Dole earns support from 47%. A month ago, Dole led Hagan by thirteen percentage points.

Hagan currently leads by three points among women while Dole wins by three among men. Hagan leads among voters under 50 while Dole leads among older voters.

Both candidates are popular with the state voters—at least before the campaign season gets under way. Fifty-six percent (56%) have a favorable opinion of Dole while 53% offer positive reviews of Hagan.

Dole is supported by 85% of Republicans, Hagan by 80% of Democrats, and Dole leads by nine points among unaffiliated voters. The incumbent is hurt by the declining value of the Republican party label. Nationally, the number of people who consider themselves to be Democrats has risen to record highs in recent months. The partisan gap (the number of Democrats minus the number of Republicans) has grown to a full ten percentage points in the early phase of Election 2008.

Hagan apparently intends to take full advantage of this partisan reality. She recently reminded Tar Heel voters that " Elizabeth Dole votes with President Bush 92 percent of the time…. you are not representing the interests if you are voting straight-party like that with Bush all the time. That is not what North Carolinians want."

As the election in MS showed yesterday, there's no such thing as a safe seat for the GOP. This is another exmaple. Make all the excuses you want, but it's THE WAR.

I respectfully disagree, it’s the $4.00/gallon gas and the price of food.

Do you mean the war we’re winning but misreported as losing day in and day out by our traitorous media?

That war?

“Make all the excuses you want, but it’s THE WAR.”

Better tell that to Hagan if you want her to win, Iraq is only no. 8 on her list-

Before Iraq are the economy and cracking down on illegal immigration, e.g.

If the Democrats get 60+ seats in the Senate, a bigger majority in the House and Obama as President, they can really screw things up.

Massive new government regulations.

Very liberal justices, if not an expansion of the Supreme Court to 12 members to pack it.

Lower courts packed with liberal justices

Higher taxes

Windfall taxes on oil companies which will result in lower production of oil, and potential shortages of gasoline at the pump

Open borders for illegal immigrants

Compulsory unionization through the check off system

Government takeover of the health care sector.

Massive new environmental regulation

Massive new affirmative action programs

After two years, the US economy would be more centrally controlled than any EU member's. McCain won't go that far. He is currently in the running.

Obama with 41 R senators couldn't do major damage, but with 39 R senators, the Democrats could do massive damage.

Which are being caused by inflation and a declining dollar, both of which are largely due to fighting a war we can’t pay for. Anybody who tries to separate foreign policy from economic issues is living in a dream land.

Then of course, there’s the Democrats, who will still waste money abroad and find new ways to waste it at home. I’m not very optimistic for the future of this country right now.

McCain would sign off on half the stuff you mentioned, not to mention continuing to waste money and lives in Iraq.

It would just bring on the revolution a little sooner than later and that is a good thing.

Didn’t Mrs Dole just vote “no” on drilling in Alaska?

I bet she’s stunned she got beaten for reelection. Mrs Dole, Americans are sick and tired of paying $3.50+ a gallon for $1.89 gasoline!

Half of it is better than all of it, and I don’t consider the protection of the American people from terrorism a waste of money or lives. National defense is the preeminent duty of the Federal government.

Price of gasoline.

If the price is down, and the Dow hits new highs by November, McCain is a shoo-in.

If not, get ready for a stay in one of O'Hillary's reeducation camps for clingers.

“I respectfully disagree, it’s the $4.00/gallon gas and the price of food.”

Economic issues trump everything else. You better believe it.

I think Liddy can pull it out. She's the incumbent and a fine senator.

I don’t have a problem with drilling in ANWR, but a lot of people here seem to think it’s a magic bullet that’ll fix our energy problems. It’ll make a dent, but long term we need to use less oil. I trust the market to come up with an alternative; people are going to have to use something else with prices like this.

National defense is the preeminent duty of the Federal government.

Both our northern and southern borders are wide open. I consider this a much higher priority for national defense than getting bogged down in a civil war in Iraq.

the protection of the American people from terrorism

I can't believe anybody still thinks that's what we're doing.

I hate to say it, but the Carville mantra is spot on:

IT'S THE ECONOMY, STUPID!!!

Please note the last word of the last sentence is not directed at you, ML...LOL!
