GOP Stunned By Loss in Mississippi

In a major blow to national Republicans, a Mississippi congressional seat that once voted for President Bush by a twenty-five point margin elected a Democrat on Tuesday. Prentiss County Chancery Clerk Travis Childers beat out Republican candidate Greg Davis, the mayor of Southaven, by a 54%-46% margin, a spread that several Republican strategists on Capitol Hill characterized as a startling wake-up call for a party in dire straits.

Voters cast ballots for the fourth time in three months for the seat, vacated when Republican Roger Wicker was appointed to fill the remainder of Senator Trent Lott's term. After winning the primary and the runoff election, Childers came within 410 votes of winning the first round of the special election against Davis on April 22, beating the Republican by a 49%-46% margin.

He’ll have exactly the congress he wants.

I’ve seen a lot of similar posts here, i.e. “Good! Let the GOP go down in flames so that real conservatives can rebuild it!” But do people who share this view understand that a Liberal take-over of the government will doom the country to 20-30 years of rule that will end private ownership of firearms, double everyone’s taxes, destroy the military, allow Islamopsychos to take-over large parts of the country, and perhaps even end the country as we know it? Just how are conservatives to recover from that, or even survive at all?

“Yeah, THAT’LL help!

What a bunch of DUMBA—ES.”

Yeah, no kidding.

Isn’t he one of the geniuses who thinks our ‘06 losses are evidence that the GOP needs to lean left?

How ironic it is that their re-branding effort led them to choose the same advertising slogan as the anti-depressant, Effexor.

The worst part is the GOP is counting on talk radio to do the politicking and mud slinging for the GOP in November, simply because the GOP doesn’t want to bloody their prissy lil hands.

sad

So if someone went in to vote for the Republican, he would have had to just guess.

LOL, even with an (R) by their name it's still a guess. The reason thye GOP is faltering is beause they lost their way, there is little difference between big spnding enviromentalist Republicasn and big spending enviromentalist democrats.

It’s getting harder for conservatives to crossover and vote for RINO’s.

But it's getting easier for democrats to vote for DINO's. Shuler. Ellsworth and now this guy. The dems are running conservative democrats in conservative districts. And winning!

Unless America suffers another big attack domestically there won't be republican control of Congress again in my lifetime. Since I can't root for another attack I'm left with the alternative as a default position.

Pretty damn depressing when I consider that John "AGW NUT" McCain will be the only firewall between me and Socialism Gone Wild.

Great idea, Let the Moveon.org dems have CONTROL over all three branches of govt and let them select THREE SUPREME COURT JUDGES . You think that will prove a point ?
Wasn't that the great idea being spread before the 2006 election and now we have Nancy and Harry.
The Soros /Moveon.org dem will never give back power. The will change the voting laws and ram thru the Fairness doctrine and the new laws restricting the new media and basically SHUT US UP for ever. This Not Voting crap is pure stupidity and child like.

China is drilling off Cuba. Are we stupid or what?

And few politicians really want to address the problem. Wonder why that is???? [Because those making $$$ from this situation have more influence over politicians than does the average citizen.]

If it became politically expedient for a politician to insist on drilling along the US coast or interior, that politician would. So far, it is not yet politically expedient to do so.

“This loss had nothing to do with McCain or rinos. McCain will carry the first district of Mississippi by at least 15 points come the general.”

Hope so.

Another One Bites The Dust...three elections turn to 'rats in CONSERVATIVE DISTRICTS....and McCain is moving the Republicans further to the left. This sucks.

“Just wait until October when there are no ground troops for door-to-door type activity for McCain or few others down the ticket.”

“The other guy is worse” is hardly an inspiring reason to donate money or time.

Completely agree, but conservative have been screaming to the RNC types since about 2004. Republicans held all the controls up until 2006. What did they do? They utterly squandered that majority - utterly. They did NOTHING. They passed NOTHING of substance, rather they focused on themselves and reaching across the aisle and trying not to anger the NYTimes editors.

The GOP has used fear to persuade voters for too long.

And their message that cutting taxes is good because it will increase government revenues. What's up with that?

If cutting taxes raises more money for unconstitutional programs and intrusions into the private sector, then I'm against it.

“The economy is in a shambles and the average VOTING American is being hurt - BADLY - by skyrocketing costs and the embarrassment in the White House flies to Israel for a visit.”

You haven’t seen anything yet. If the Dems win it all and raise taxes it will plunge this economy into a DEPRESSION and absolute RUIN.

“After 8 years of a pseudo-conservative, the Republicans are running an out-and-out Rino with an explosive temper for Congress.” - Sort of true. McCain is a RINO without a doubt. President Bush is a pseudo-conservative only when it comes to spending. Otherwise he has done pretty well.

“The economy is in a shambles and the average VOTING American is being hurt - BADLY - by skyrocketing costs” - this is BS. The economy has slowed down, but is definitely NOT “in a shambles”. Also, inflation has grown slightly, but not dramatically.

“embarrassment in the White House flies to Israel for a visit.” - I doubt the average American is embarrassed by this trip. Get real!

The rest of your post is right on target. No use undermining your arguments with exaggerations and distortions.
